  • Hema won't turn on

I have one of the one Hema's and it worked ok on Friday but when I went to turn it on yesterday it won't turn on. It is fully charged and I've tried resetting it and the light on it is green but I have a blank screen. Anyone got any ideas how to turn it on and getting it working again

    Thanks

    Re: Hema won't turn on

Hi Dreamon. I recently had a similar issue with my Hema Navigator 5. I borrowed someone elses mini sdcard from their HN5 and it also did not work. I took it back to Hema head office in Brisbane to be looked at. It had a failed motherboard and they could not repair it so I got a brand new one (mine was only 2 months old).

I would suggest to give Hema support guys a ring as they are very helpful.

      Re: Hema won't turn on

So after sending my Hema in to be repaired they said it needed a new battery which cost $80. Paid that and when they sent it back to me it lasted a weekend and the same thing happened so I had to send it back again. They rang me to say the unit was beyond repair and I could either have my $80 refunded or I could upgrade to the new model and pay and additional $300. The mark up on these units is unbelievable.
My new unit arrived today and I picked up my new car last weekend so once all the accessories get put on I'm off exploring, can't wait.

I would have thought a significant cost was the maps installed on the unit. Probably the same maps on both and they have probably chanrged you for these again.

Can you believe this has happened to me again
Does anyone have a HN7 or know how to troubleshoot as mine won't turn on and I am due to leave for a trip next week, so really need it. I've tried resetting it and charging it through 240v. It turns on for about 30 seconds then the screen goes blank or lines run through it

When you say you "reset" it did you use the tip of a paperclip or similar in the reset hole to do this.
I have had the same issue twice with not switching on and horizontal lines and pushing the reset fixed it.
            Cheers

Did anything happen? you might need something smaller in diameter to reach the switch?
Give Hema a ring, they talked me through the fix when I had a problem.

Honestly, and I'm sad to day this, you are probably better off without the HN7....I can now honestly say, after using one for almost a year...I hate the bl$$dy thing...I wont go into the detail here...I dont have the time just yet...but if mine breaks I wont be getting another one...sad, as I like the HEMA concept, but I am so disappointed with it.

Brogers, could you go into detail please.
I'm very new to 4WDing and got a HN7. While the off-road maps and operation are okay for me, the street view, with no "2D top to North" view, is driving me mad!

Well I take my hat off to the HEMA technical team as I emailed then and they rang back straight away and we went through a process of fault finding / resetting which didn't work. I explained to them that I was leaving on a trip next week and the guy said because it was relatively new he would put a replacement in the post for me. I received my brand new device in less than 48 hours from over east to Busselton, so couldn't be happier. Now that's customer service for you

I find it very very "non intuitive" to use. I have just returned from a 5,000km trip, into outback Queensland...and I know others will disagree, but my wife's $100 Navman was more useful...seriously. I don't have an axe to grind with HEMA, their paper maps are excellent, and their service and after sales is excellent...but the HN7 ...I just about threw it out the window tonight...so many key strokes to do the most simple things, and even then the maps don't show the detail that I want...but if you already have a HN7..give it a go, try it in street mode, and 4wd mode...(even that's an exercise in itself..switching from street navigation mode and 4wd mode)...honestly, I am very disappointed with the HN7...and I've tried several times to read the manual and on line help...and I am someone who always reads manuals etc ...it gives me a headache...honestly, I find it hard to follow and read.. I don't want to talk anyone out of getting one, but I am going to look for another option other then the HN7...sorry HEMA.
