  • SatNav, Bush

Do any of you guys out there with a Grande know whether it is possible to get any programs to upgrade the satnav so it will work in the bush ?
    ie, Birdville track etc

    Scott,

I think the best you can do is buy the latest software upgrade from whereis. Only $400

Still no guarantee of coverage but a lot of stuff is covered.

    Version 13 I think.

I upgraded from version 3 and that was in a 2003 model.

I might go and check and see if it will map a route to birdsville for me.

    Cheers
    Garth

I don't have the Toyota satnav system, but I wonder if there is a cheaper way of getting the latest data in it, given Tomtom Navigator 6 has the latest Sensis v13 maps for something like $199. I guess the data format is probably different though. For $400 you could buy a cheap PDA and set it up.

It already works in the bush and has most major roads on it and also a lot of minor roads.

EG oodnadatta track, Borefield road, Birdsville track an unnamed road out to Lake Torrens from andamooka.
It also has the ability to go to a Lat long and if no roads will just point an arrow as a normal GPS would.

          Satnav

I spoke to Toyota WA tech department today and they say the Satnav programs come from the Department of Infrastrucure, the latest version he says is version 13 part # PZQ86-00121 and was released around April 2007.
          Does this sound correct ?

The Birdsville track IS actually on the DVD. You need to zoom in ALL the way to 50m to see it. We drove down last year and it worked fine. I did notice that the GPS would not use it as a route though.
