I picked up a GPS at the Perth 4x4 show on the weekend which was being sold as a cheaper alternative to the Hema Navigator. Its got a 5 inch screen, has Oziexplorer loaded and uses iGO for street navigation. It was available at two price levels, $249 or around $400. I was told the cheaper option only came with a few maps in Ozi while the dearer one came loaded with all Hema maps.
I ended up getting the cheaper version as I have the Hema 2008 disk and Geoscience maps so thought there was no need to pay the extra. Got the unit home and found it already had all the Geoscience maps, a load of CALM (DEC) maps along with Hema general, regional and WA maps already loaded - bonus .
The unit is much better quality than the Navlink I already have and the touch screen is a lot more sensitive when using the keyboard in Ozi.The vague keyboard in Ozi when using the Navlink used to drive me insane. It comes with the usual usb cables, an in car charger, ear phones etc but the 240 volt adapter wont fit Australian plugs - I was told this was to keep costs down. Also included is a window mount. It has all the usual bluetooth, FM radio, media capabilities etc and takes SD cards up to 8gb. I was told it locked onto sattelites quicker than the Hema, but I'm not qualified enough to go there. :?:
I picked the unit up at the Autotainment display who apparently are owned/operated by the bloke that started Alberts Hi Fi many years ago, so there is a decent reputation behind them (I used to love Alberts). I was told the units are manufactured to the Autotainment specs in China and they offer full support here in Perth via their Burswood store.
Only had the unit a week but so far it looks pretty good. I already had a RAM window mount so have reconfigured it to hold the new GPS, now all I have to do is work out a way of breaking the news of the purchase to the Minister of Finance. :?
Ps, I have no links to Autotainment.
Forgot to add, a wireless reversing camera is available for around $65
