Done!Originally posted by Pradogxlv6Now go into the bathroom GM and wash your mouth out !!!!
Speaking of bathrooms, I have installed pictures of Pajeros at the bottom of the toilet bowl, to help improve the kids' aim - gotta teach them the difference between right and wrong at an early age!!!
Now before I am subjected to hoardes of protests from Mr Bishi and other bleeding hearts - this is a joke!! In reality, everyone knows that I wouldn't even piss on a Pajero!

It's a let down, fellas. No juicy gossip I'm afraid. (you can relax Chippy) I mentioned a prolific poster who is teacher called Chippy and she just says - if he is in IT, then it must be {insert real name} and made some mumbles about a gobbledock ... Turns out Chippy used to sort out the district office computers while she worked there. You'll meet her (and me!) on Sunday.

Yeah - it's a good story for them to spin! I know a few people around Lithgow who regulary work in areas with limited phone coverage and have recently switched from CDMA to NextG (given the impending closure of CDMA) and have been very disappointed by the lack of coverage in comparison.Originally posted by StrahanI was under the impression that NextG covered all the CDMA areas and a bit more?
I switched to CDMA years ago, as the GSM coverage up here was woeful. GSM has improved somewhat since then, so I will probably go with it when it's time to ditch the CDMA phone.[b]Matthew ... Just to add to the NextG story,
Reliable source?? Informed me that at present the NextG service is a bit overloaded because it is running with CDMA at the same time & should improve as CDMA drops out.
One of the major reasons that NextG is poor in the country is that you must have a aerial setup with your phone.
However you could not get a aerial for their phones until recently & I have noticed some phone have been dropped from the range, others added & stating as to what areas they are good for e.g. (City, rural, country)
I will just wait until my CDMA dies which may not be to far away as the battery is dying.
The bluetooth connection to the radio in the later Prado's makes it a temptation.

I wonder if that's Tel$tra propaganda aimed at getting us to ditch our CDMA phones? My wife's phone is CDMA, the idea being that if my PDA doesn't have access to the GSM network then we can use her CDMA. This had been handy a couple of times. I've also heard bad stories about poor NextG coverage compared to CDMA. Let's hope it improves.Originally posted by FazzaJust to add to the NextG story,

Travelling through the Lane Cove Tunnel the other day, and Fiona's CDMA dropped out, they obviously didn't install CDMA gear in there given it is being discontinued. Pretty annoying though as she was on an important call. :-|

If anyone is looking a emergency alerting capabilities, then having a range of tools suited to the location is vital. No mobile phone network anywhere in the world can provide continuous coverage to all locations (except perhaps for Hong Kong but even there I would expect black spots.)Originally posted by FazzaJust to add to the NextG story,

If you are considering going into remote areas then a mobile phone is in my opinion not sufficient. Mini EPIRBs are a good idea but only for true distress situations. I always have my NextG phone and carry a 5W handheld UHF (which comes with me when we a bush walking). For really remote areas however, I have taken a Satellite phone (rented). It is much more compact, easier to use and can also be taken when away from the vehicle compared with the HF alternative.
Fazza, I can say with confidence your "reliable source" is not correct. At the macro level, the current performance of the NextG network is not limited by the closure of the CDMA network and recovery of that spectum. It is important for Telstra however because that spectum is needed to satisfy the future growth in customer numbers and usage.
At a local level, every Mobile network (all over the world and no matter what technology) is constantly being tuned to maximise performance for customers. There are all sorts of reasons for this including feedback from customers, new sources of interference (including faulty mast head TV antenna amplifiers to name just one) and changing patterns of usage.
Take a look at the comments here for example which highlight that customer feedback via the Blackspot reports really has an impact. I have used it myself and noticed an improvement about 8 weeks later (which may have been coincidence):
http://www.nowwearetalking.com.au/Ho...id=372&pid=625
What is clear for me, is that with almost twice as many base stations (now >6000) and 2M sq Km of coverage vs 1.6M sq Km for CDMA, NextG is the only choice and will only continue to get better. Some lucky Telstra staff have gotten to drive over 120,000Km to verify this.
Re external antennas: As you point out there are now specific handsets with a blue tick symbol that are better suited to rural use. (Note: Mobile phone ranges change regularly as they are now more like a fashion accessory and hence new ones are added and poor sellers are removed.)
Anyone with a current external antenna for their CDMA handset can reuse this with any NextG phone (if it has the ext ant socket.) because it is in the same frequency band. (An adapter may be required just to physically connect the cable to the new handset but any competent dealer should be able to sort this out quickly.)White 2013 GXL D4D Auto, BFG 265/70R17 ATs, UHF TX6200; Goldstream Storm hanging off the back
