    veering off subject !!

Just to add to P1s comments, if you are in a country area you would be nuts to choose GSM over next G, Telstra had finally sorted out the coverage on CDMA to the point where in the district I cover I had service everywhere ( Hi Gain antenna and car kit ) We are about to change from CDMA to Next G with our work phones, we have been trialling coverage with a few Next G handsets with car kits and the coverage is definately as good as CDMA, as Telstra make very clear you must compare apples to apples eg if you run a Higain external antenna on CDMA you must on Next G, I have just bought my wife a Nokia 6120 Classic Next G and put the car kit in ( will post a pic ) I have a Higain bullbar antenna on this also. This phone is not advertised as " country " coverage handset but coverage tests have shown it is on par with the phones that are " country" handsets, at work we will most likely go with the LG flip phone as it is a more rugged phone than the Nokia and doesnt rely on bluetooth to actually connect the audio to the car kit as the Nokia does.
Just my 2 cents worth

Speedcomm, did you get a genuine nokia kit for the 6120 and is it a hard wired kit.

The 6120 is a Bluetooth only phone, ie it does not have a pop port to connect to the CK-7W. As Tim (Speedcomm) will properly mention, There is a major flaw with this phone and Genuine nokia bluetooth kits, the person your talking to gets major echo problems, i was told over the weekend that nokia has a fix for the problem to be released in the near future. Tim got around this by using a Sony bluetooth kits which i think fixed the echo problem

          P1,
Agree with most of what you mentioned other than that reliable source did make the comment back before June & also made the statement that a lot of tower's were being over taxed at the time, re- a lot of drop outs.

Since I made that comment I have upgraded :?: to a Next G LG TU550 (which I am very happy with) but guess what it often drops out completely in certain areas, more than the CDMA I once had ever did.
I am talking Victoria e.g. Sandringham, Paynseville & of all places the Bolte bridge in the city & this is Next G to Next G :?: & it doesn't just drop out once we made 3 calls at one time when in convoy on the Bolte Bridge.
Have been told by Telsra this is a problem that they are dealing with & will be rectified shortly :?: :?: :?:

I have also got a aerial patch which helps in areas such as Paynesville but is a pain in the butt to set up.

Now after saying all of that I do think that the coverage (GENERALLY) is or will be very good

          I guess that's progress,

          Cheers,

            Hutch, as Goanna said.
The cradle is a Force ( aftermarket ) cradle, Quite nicely made too ! There is no direct connection car kit available for the 6120 classic. The cradle has external antenna and charging, audio is done via bluetooth.

This discussion on mobile phones maybe should be dragged over on to a new topic ? Im sure people would like to add comments, we have got way off the original topic

Guys, my enqueries today highlighted that their is a Nokia cradle car kit for the 6120, depending on who you rang, the telstra dealer had no idea?? however telechoice and fone zone assured me that their was definately one available and it will plug into the current CK7W car kit, so all i need to do is swap my cradle over. $95 bucks for the cradle, happy days!!!

Thanks Fazza, I'm glad you are seeing a change for the better. The guys and the few gals in the field are putting in the hours. I'll follow up on the Bolte Bridge issue.

As an aside, I think speedcomm's right when he suggested this discussion on Mobiles is off topic. Perhaps it can be moved?

I have to retract this comment, after been told by a few places over the phone yes you can get one when i went to purchase today it was suddenly a very differnt story. NOT HAPPY JAN. Anyhow i have gone back to one of the comms places i frequent often and he has given me the low down. Their is a cradle coming in december from German compant that will supply ariel connection, charge and hold the phone with Connection via bluetooth. i think the webiste is www.ptp.net.au

Sounds the same as the one I have Hutch, holds and charges the phone, gives external antenna but connects the audio via bluetooth to the handsfree kit. I am running a Nokia CK7W as the car kit but it suffers a bad echo which will apparently be fixed by a firmware upgrade in the near future. So at the moment I also have a Sony Erricson bluetooth car kit which is what we are actually using, it works fine. Only problem with the above setup is the keypad doesnt unlock when you put it in the cradle, will be interested to see if the german one does.

                      Further to all this.
The echo has now been fixed, the firmware upgrade is available at all Nokia service centres for free, and it works !
I have found an application for the phone called lights on, which once the phone is plugged into its charger the lights come on and the keypad unlocks and stays this way, works a treat.
Coverage has also worked out well, seems to work as well as the old CDMA. Finally happy

speedcomm, more info required on the lights on, what menu did you find this and does it have to be in the car kit/ charger.

The lights on is a Symbion download, costs about $ 10, downloads and adds it into the applications area, just run it and adjust the features. Works when the charger is plugged in eg put in the Force cradle. Unlocks keypad and turns on backlighting permenently

The latest firmware which stops the echo is now on the Nokia web site, downloaded it yesterday, fixes the echo !

May I introduce you to the Spot Messenger GPS.

It's s GPS locator. Simple little thing really... It has three buttons on it..

                              1. (OK) Push it and your predefined list of friends will get a note saying 'I'm okay, and here is where I am'... You set this up yourself on their website. It can be sent as an sms or email link or both.

                              2. (Help) Push this on and your predefined set of contacts will get a message saying you need help. This does not go to any search and rescue resources... It's good for things like flat tires, where someone on your list can actually do something to help you again via sms or email

                              3. (911) This sends a note your help contacts as well as the appropriate emergency response team in your area.

They also offer a service that allows the unit to send constant updates every 10 minutes so your friends can track your progress, or you can go back and see it yourself when you get home.

                              All don via satellite

                              Check out their website....
                              http://www.findmespot.com/

They are easily bought on ebay. Not too much to sign up either.

                              2005 VX Turbo Diesel + a heap of add-ons.

Yes, found it last night downloaded it to my computor and then sent it to the phone Via bluetooth, was able to do both phones for the price of one,
Very happy now the phone works how should have always.
