Had a play on the weekend. Cleaned the MAF which was disgustingly dirty. Pretty sure its the first time since the rig rolled off the production line. Also ripped out the middle seats and don't think I will be in a hurry to put them back. I have a temporary marine ply board in place but will be looking to make a professional fit unit that locks into place similar to the fridge slides one can get. More room than a Sandman in the back!Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!

On the 16th April 2014 I had the misfortune of becoming a statistic, of sorts. The D4D had a little dummy spit about 10km out of a Ararat in Victoria. For those refined citizens of the free State of South Australia, that's about 6 hours into Mexico. After some early diagnosis and later confirmed by CMI Toyota in Adelaide, there was amongst other things, a hole in number 1 piston. That was coupled by a decent crack in the same piston and a crack in number 3 piston. Not a bad effort for a motor about to be checked in for its 80,000 km service. So why did a motor that was just broken in go bang? Knuck Fows!
Now, as a number of less fortunate members know, the shit hits the fan about now with Toyota denying any responsibility, blaming bad fuel etc etc, etc. For those that have followed my build up, I always try to fill up with BP Ultimate Diesel (at least 95% of fuel purchases), I have a catch can installed, and the service history is impeccable. That said, I didn't have to deal with Toyota.
What I haven't posted before is I have a CMI Secure (Dealer Extended Warranty). I took this knowing and agreeing outright that they won't be responsible for some modifications, but are happy to cover others because they add to the vehicle strength or safety.
The outcome as I said was I did NOT have to deal with Toyota. I DID get my motor replaced (whole motor), I did not pay a cent! They even did the balance of the 80,000 km service without charge!!!!!!! They took on Toyota and Toyota agreed to provide a short motor to them, well and good. For me however, I was only slightly inconvenienced as CMI did what they had to, with an absolute minimum of fuss, provided me a loan vehicle for 3 weeks while they assessed, dealt with Toyota, rebuilt and completed the job.
This is the best anyone could hope for and is such a vastly different outcome to the grief we hear over and over again about D4D issues and dealing with Toyota. I cannot sing the praises of the team at CMI Toyota on West Terrace enough and one staff member in particular who rang every time he said he would, who went out of his way and was always polite and understanding. To you Marc, a big thanks and i hope you enjoy the GlenFiddich.
I am even getting two pistons as souvenirs once the Toyota national expert has had a look at them (and provided he doesn't want the souvenirs). The lesson I learnt out of this was to never complain about the increased costs after fixed price servicing. The time and costs I have saved are huge and the peace of mind is priceless.
I cannot recommend the extended warranty enough or the team at CMI Toyota at West Terrace Adelaide.

It may be a seating issue, but they are still analysing.
Other than faulty pistons there is nothing they can find.Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!
