Mexico is also referred to as Victoria. We don't expect a Queenslander to know this as they have NSW between them and the wild south. We free folk of the free settlement in the said state of South Australia did not name Mexico. The are ample signs along the SA/Vic border that refer to Mexico as you approach Mexico (aka Vic).
"Mexico" is not necessarily south of everything. Brazil is south of Mexico. We all like a Bazilian. The determining factor is a bigger ego usually presides north of Mexico. Examples are the US of A and the NS of W. Coincidentally we don't all like Americans or New South Welshmen as you prior post implies given NSW is south of your border.
