Haven't caught up with AJ for a while other than on FACEBOOK! I shit you not. But lets not be surprised, there was a blue moon and the town of Hell did freeze over.
His bush-welding skills saved a traveller towing a camper with a broken axle of some kind (you get the jist) when he did a trip last month.
While not his formal representative I understand he is well and enjoying life. I will pass on you thoughts when I speak to him next.
Regards

The car went in late friday afternoon for its second 40,000km service. Not an 80,000, but the first 40,000 for the new motor. It needed to be in overnight to do the cold start valve clearance thingy whatsit.
So I get a call Thursday mid morning:
1. The rear brakes need replacing - no problem, I will do that as I only use bendix pads.
2. The main fuel tank is leaking diesel and as a result the rubbers have deteriorated. We need to replace the tank which appears to be leaking from a structural weakness as well as the supporting brackets due to the rubber being shot. -estimate $1,000 plus labour.
3. The front steering rack is showing wear signs. We could watch it and check again next service, but we know you are about to head to the Cape and suggest it be done now - cost around $1,000 plus labour. and finally
4. The valve clearances need some fixing (I didn't ask the cost as I was too busy wondering how much I will get for selling a child).
Me " How much is all that going to cost me??????????????
CMI Toyota "Rob, you have our extended warranty, it will cost you nothing"
God bless the second CMI TOYOTA extended warranty that has once again paid for itself multiple times over.
Note: you don't notice these things unless you actually inspect the vehicle like the program says too.
Extremely happy camper!
Now, lets hope they can find a new fuel tank in days as I cannot wait the 20+delivery days from japan. I am leaving with or without a fuel tank for the cape on 5th August!

I'd be asking though why the valve clearances are out after only 40k, I thought this was a new engine? Did you have the cold rattle signs?
Having to crack the top after only 40k cant be ideal, especially as you're going on a long trip.
Cheers
Micheal.
