I'm using the Alpine Steering Wheel Interface SWCC10, and I get all functions except for phone buttons and voice commands. There is a more expensive interface available from PAC called an SWI-RC which will allow the phone buttons to work, but not sure about the voice commands.

A complete fascia kit is available to allow fitting of the aftermarket head unit and it suits the GXL and VX model 150 series. The kit includes a storage pocket that goes where the OEM head unit was. It has a retractable lid I removed and replaced with the lower screen, so I still have use of the storage area behind the screen.
Thanks for the detailed info VXWesty.

The hooks are available from an online spare parts store called "Pelican parts". You'll find a thread on this forum that'll give you all the details including part numbers. I use them to tie down the Engel.

Hi VXWesty I see in your upgrades you also converted your high beam to HID. What was involved, how much did it cost, where did you get the parts from and how long did it take. Sorry for all the questions.

          Cheers

Not sure how I missed it... I blame the forum upgrade!

              Hi Jason

I got them from Newpro-tech for around $200 (very good quality too). The install is pretty straight forward as it's mostly plug and play. I reckon it only took about an hour to do and the ballasts used in these kits are nice and slim which makes them easy to fit.

The light output is much brighter than the OEM halogens, however they get swamped by my spotties which come on with the high beam

                Thanks William

Yeah it's coming along nicely... Now I'm just working out what to do next.

I think a winch will most likely be the next major purchase. It's either that or 3"exhaust

Yeah, well actually they are 50W for the Lightforce XGT's but they're plenty bright enough

I found time over the last few weeks to do add a few more toys to the Prado.

First was a couple of Alpine Overhead DVD Monitors for the kids. I'll admit it was a pain in the butt job to do... so much more time (and beer) consuming than I thought it would be. The curved roof lining at the edges of the car make it way more time intensive to get everything lined up properly, but the end result is awesome.

Both screens can view one DVD played from, the front DVD Player, or a Western Digital media player that allows access to a hard drive full of movies, photos and music. Each one can also play their own DVD... and that makes for a quiet drive - ahhhh the serenity.

Next came a GME-TX3540 remote UHF. The hardest part was finding a spot for the UHF brain which I ended up tucking in between the bottom of the glove box and the plastic panel above the passengers footwell. One small job to finish is to hard mount the Mic socket into one of the spare switch locations to allow easy removal of the Mic when not in use.

The Antenna and cable was simple to install, with the cable run into a spare rubber grommet on the drivers side firewall. I used the AE-409L as it is short enough to fit under my garage door when mounted onto the ARB bar tab, and it also has the extension whip to become a 9dB antenna. The mounting allows the antenna to fold down, and can be easily adapted to suit a longer fibreglass antenna and spring if need be.

I found these little gems at Bunnings to store my new Maxtrax (when not being used). Matching orange wall hooks that are long enough to fit another pair of Maxtrax (one day) and they also double as a place to store the Foxwing poles, guy ropes and pegs!
