I had to be a bit more careful when I did mine - I bought spares but they only had nine in the local Toyota dealer. Ended up using eight of them - the ninth went on my mates Hilux when I fitted his snorkel for him

            • Well done mate, put through the ringer by the supplier and ya PP mates and still do a fantastic job. Hope you wore your pink helmet for protection while doing it

              • Can get by without the pink, but the purple helmet is the one that really needs protection

                • Saturday was the day that i was going to do the snorkel but I was so excited after waiting so long to get it, I finished it all on Friday night
Saturday, headed up to the mountains to Dave place with the intension of doing a winch service on his Premier winch, seven years on and never been off the vehicles but has seen heaps of mud, water and a good flogging to boot.
Guess what..... didnt need much doing at all, just a clean up and put her back together!!
Says a lot about how good they are!
Funilly the Avenger is virtually identical internally, even down to the finer details!

This was a good time to fit my winch saver and give the winch a bit of a workout.

Ended up draging a his work Hilux up a driveway with the brakes on, just short of locking up.
The Avenger was working hard and was pulling up to about 250 amps so there sure was a big load on.

I was a bit surprised at the look of the 1st layer of rope after that heavy load but I guess its normal????

                  • Sunday was spent finally tidying up all the winch cabling and trying the get the isolator sorted.
Got the Winch Saver on, so that tidies that up.

And then finished the under car routing etc
Unfortunately I couldnt get any large diameter split loom to use instead of all the smaller diameter stuff.
I tried to get some 35mm but it was only available in 30M rolls.

                    • Ran the wiring through the firewall for the winch solenoid switch.
The double pole switch is supposed to arm the solenoid in the up position and disable the rear batteries connection and vice versa.

As soon as it was all done and mounted up, this damn switch broke
Its jammed in the up position and you can hear bits rattling inside.
Better in the garage than on the trail I suppose!

How does the winchline lay with the winch saver?

I think MLC might not understand how the winch saver works - apologies if I'm wrong here. MLC the winch saver stays next to the hook when the rope pays out - it doesn't stay at the Hawse. The idea is when the rope comes back in the winch saver cushions the hook and stops it damaging the hawse. The rope doesn't pass back and forward through the winch saver. Hope that's clear.

                            • Nice work Marc. The winch cabling looks very nice n tidy. (Where would we be without split tubing & cable ties?)
I'd like to get Dynamica rope for my Magnum9K but going on the 4wd Action winch comparo a while back, I'm concerned about how hot the magnum winches get when worked hard. The increased heat cant be good for rope.

Look forward to whatever next is on your list... (rocksliders?)
