Hi Brains,
Do you know if it would be possible to add a front camera onto the standard GXL Headunit. I'm very interested in this Mod.

Was driving at Mount Mee today coming down a decline with a couple of large bumps which I lost view of over the bonnet. I turned the front camera on and was able to see just in front of the car. For me it's a great usable addition and with the 8" screen you can see heaps.Last edited by Brains; 09-02-2012, 12:08 AM.

Always thought about installing a cam in the front for the times you approach a crest and want to know whats lurking down in front of the car (rocks, logs, "really scarey bits" etc...) Like you Michael the slot in the Bar would probably be the most likely location.

The Kakadu front camera is a verrryyy wide angle lens (I'd reckon getting close to 180 degrees). Displaying this on a standard aspect ratio screen means some image manipulation is required to make it fit properly.Originally posted by kondo View PostMuch better view than mine!
Same bar, same spots and whilst mine is still somewhat useable yours is a 100 times better.
Looks great.
In addition anything in the way or just a bit of to the side will show up real bad,and standard ratio cameras will look better. That's why I'm getting ARB to relocate my camera to the slot at the top of the Deluxe Winch Bar (I'm not putting a winch in at this point in time) when my bar turns up.
Cheers
Michael

Now you just need to be able to hook that feed up to a flash drive and you'll have all the evidence you need.

Spent some time today installing the front camera.
I used a front camera shroud from the Kakadu through Toyota and a front camera from eBay. All up cost around $40 for the two items.

It's connected to the replacement Head Unit from Extreme Electronics. To get the front camera to show you just press the F-Cam button. To turn it off you press the button again. The camera gets a power feed from the head unit which only powers the camera when the button is pressed.

Check outOriginally posted by wooley View PostLooks like they've beaten ARB to the post in terms of looks and practicality.
How do they attach to the chassis? Do they using existing holes?

They bolt to the Chassis.

They have also thought of having the brush bars to be easily added or taken off when required. They are also airbag compliant.

Wooley,Originally posted by wooley View PostOhhhhhhh steps!!
Any idea how they'll integrate them into a brush bar?
The front section (about 20 cm) unbolts and allows for the insertion of the brush bar which bolts in place then attaches to the bull bar the usual way.
