  • Here is my wifes 03 V6. I am trying to get the keys but its a losing battle at the moment

We got it a fortnight ago looking like this.

I then booked it into Fourbys at Moorooka where Ryano worked some magic.

I didnt want to go over the top with this one so its only a 2" lift using bilsteins and kings springs, 265/70/17 Cooper STTs and we also added a piranha dual battery system and couplertec rust protection.

Actually you'd be surprised how much of it "is" left  They decommisioned it and stripped/sold a lot of the gear, but there is still a rather substantial infrastructure there.

No mods yet - straight off the showroom floor.

With a nice dealer discount it cost just $30,000!! Brilliant!

        Cheers,

                  • Exactly the tyres i am thinking of fitting boof. gotta get over the problem with the 265/70/17 being not ok in queensland, but how do they compare noise-wise with the grandtreks?

i have them on my v6..

                      they are much noiser..

after about 20-40 kms on the highway they seem to heat up enough for the noise to quieten down alot.. but.. if you want to retain really low noise levels in the cabin.. you will have to go for a less agressive tyre.

i was shocked when i first heard how noisy it was, but.. you get used to it... i just cant wait to get em off road

                      • For Matt to claim them noisy he must be used to highway terrains

There is a little more road noise that is certain but even with the windows down it is not intrusive. They are one of the quietest muddies I have had, and they seem great on wet roads also. Even my wife hasnt complained about the noise.

The MTZs on my lux have had a hard life but they are noisier with the windows up and stereo on in the Lux than the STTs on the Prado with the window down.

You just have to be aware with muddies on if you wish to keep them quiet you need to maintain them. Check the pressures reguarly and also rotate them reguarly. I would buy them again and the only other tyre I would consider would be the Goodyear MTR. I love my MTZs but they are a lot more aggressive than either the MTR or STT

I find the MTZ quite easy to live with, but yeah my last car was a worked Subaru liberty RS turbo so i am used to using the volume knob as a road/ exhaust noise suppressor

Dont get me wrong I love my MTZs on the Lux and would get them again in a heartbeat. But they are noisier given the driving style and lack of maintenance in the Lux. The Prado is more aimed at toruing so I wanted something decent without being too aggressive. 8)

                              • I was concerned about the large gap between body and bar.. Was assured that its normal and required.. Anywho, now just deciding on which lift kit to go for!

Not sure but I reckon the standard bash plate would be better off under the new bar bash plate. Seems like a mud collection point!
