    Big Dog's - Roof Racks

Next mod was the roof racks. Got a steel basket, some HD Bars and mounts for a Patrol off ebay for about $150 including freignt to brissy. Sold the gutter mounts and got some of the Rhino Rack mounts that clamp onto the factory rails. The Mounts are the CXB type and the bars are the 1450mm HD (1250's are ok for the prado).

Here it is loaded up for Easter 2009 up at Fraser

Unfortunately the basked recently had a disagreement with a height bar in a carpark, regarding the advertised height and the actual height.... So looking to upgrade to an ARB Alloy Rack in the new year.

      Big Dog's - MaxTraxx Mount

Then it was time for some MaxTraxx. Got a pair, originally I was putting them in the roof basket but they weren't the easiest to get out, so I had a look on PP for a better location/way of mounting them.

      So a bit of

Flat bar bent into shape - $15
Couple of M10 bolts - picked up from work
      Some Velcro - $2
Some strap - from a busted tie down strap.

      And it was all done.

Great location and a perfect fit. Easy to get to without pulling anything else off the roof racks

I used to study and live on the westside and crossing the river was not an option. Now I work on the northside, enoggera, and live on the south side and It's not that bad.

Nice build there Big Dog, I didn't know you could get Rhino racks to fit the standard rails - have to take a closer look at those.

You can sort of see the mounts on Photo2 in post # 17. I'll grab the product code off the box - I think it's CXB to suit the HD bars and SXB to suit the Sports Bars. If you use the rack selector and put in Prado it gives you the mounts that need you to remove the factory rails. The ones I have can be unbolted pretty easy and then I had the rack with some of the camping gear hanging from the roof of the shed ready to go, just drop it, bolt it and your done. Haven't got this set up at the new place yet.

The HD Bars that I have are the next size up from the ones that "fit" the prado but that gives you a bit more space for shovels, fishing rods etc.

The only problem I have with the whole system is when you add the mounts and the bars to the factory rails the whole this is quite high, When I get a lift I'll probably swap over to an ARB (or ARB Copy) as I now very rarely remove the roof rack.

Let me know if you want any other pics.

Trekky I have a 1510 Rhino tray on two HD cross rails that clamp to the factory rails, works a treat.

I was looking in the wrong place - you have to select Grande to get the ones for the factory rails. Found them now, thanks guys.

                              Decent Rubber

After 70k+ on the Grandtreks I got a puncture in one of them so it was time for a new set of tyres.

Went for the BFGoodrich All Terrains LT275/65/R17 got a good price ($324 fitted) the only problem was the wait time, bit over 2 months, only other options were to get something else or get a set by shipping one from here, two from there etc.

Finally got them on in time for our trip to Fraser for Easter Last year. Haven't done a great amount of driving off road them yet, couple of beach runs and some dirt roads. but am happy with them so far, keen to try them on a bit of Mud and Rock.

And of course with the White Lettering out, they look awesome.

Just purchased this, should have it in a few weeks, once it's on then it's work lights and maybe some roof mouted spots, maybe a big PP Sticker for the wind deflector.
