G'day.

i haven't posted any new mods for a while. Well this shall change in the coming weeks as I have a nice Racor filter/water separator in transit from the states. Roo hooked me up with the correct info and I just let my eBay fingers do the walking. I change my engine bay filter every 10,000km but this will be extra insurance.

i have been chasing roof tracks from opposite lock to mount up my old windcheeta and ARB awning to the 150. Dad reckons we can just drill out the old tracks to suit the 150, so hopefully if SWMBO isn't working next Sunday, we are planning to give this a go and mount up my rack, finally.

My drawers are stalled at the moment, but we shall get that back on line next month. After they are completed, I will beef up the ride height as planned.

And I have a new air compressor picked out for my 40th, so wifey will be busy on eBay soon I hope !!

Not a bad fit, is it. I reckon the iPad mini will be the device for that job. The whole gadget is rumored to be 7.x inches instead of the regular 9.7 inches - not that much smaller, about the size of the normal iPad's screen. Still have plenty of real estate for mapping.

Mmm a few beers got me thinking and looking this arvo. I noticed a bloody nice big gap up inside the drivers side wheel well, that nicely exposes the turbocharger wastegate actuator (which is plastic, god knows why ?) to have a big stone flicked up into it and shagging the turbo generally. I looked at it last week while the tyres were beng changed and hatched a plan to slow down the stones and hopefully protect the turbo unit, long term from external impact damage.

I checked the suspension movement with my big jack, nothing fouls...


Stock set up.. Dumb hey ?

Twenty odd years working in the mining industry has taught me anything can, and eventually will happen off road . Two beers and less than five bucks worth of parts, just might save my bacon one day

I have finally sorted out my stuff to do my filter. This will be a project for this weekend, if things go my way. Purchased stainless hose clamps and stainless bolts plus good quality diesel hose etc.

Just need some time to sort out the bracket and fit all..

Ebay seller for the Filter unit please???? Haven't been able to find any on ebay.

Fitting the filter and stuff

########## wanted a full 'how too' write up, but truthfully this job is so bloody easy, it's is nearly a 'plug and play' level modification. The only part I found a pain in the arse, was the bracket and bending it to get the filter angle right. I will throw up some photos and this might go over a few posts, due to stupid photo limit crap..

The filter goes in this space...


Use thread tape on all the fittings...


The bracket painted up, insertion rubber as usual to absorb vibration on the guard and stainless bolts used..


I always use insertion rubber on any bracket that touches the inner guards of my Prado, never had guard cracking....

Here it is all fitted and hosed up correctly..

It started first go, no leaks or issues. Just use quality gear, make sure the Racor filter is full of diesel before the engine is bled and started.
