Got to Coffs Harbour late yesterday arvo and set up in the setting sun and into the night. It's amazing how travelling the pacific highway from Brisbane to Coffs made such a big difference to fuel burn. Out amoungst the huge hills of the New England ranges on the way up to Straddie I averaged 13.5 L/100 km while fully loaded up. On the haul from Brisbane to Coffs travelling the very flat pacific highway, I averaged 12.4 L/100 km. This trip has highlighted the girly toyota fitted clutch in the Prado. Although it suffers from my size 11 hoofs feeding the power thru it via the accelerator, it is still slipping abit sometimes due to the load. I found this out quite well when trying to drive off Stradbroke main beach. I have spoke to the handbrake and when the stock clutch dies, a Exedy Safari will take its place.




On the Exedy website they quote $1150 to supply a HD clutch. I contacted Terrain Tamer and they quoted my $855 for the same bloody clutch kit !. Now I know the details, I can be ready down the track. So the next few months will be saving for bits and pieces.

Been on the road today, travelling home. Filled the prado with BP ultimate diesel at Coffs Harbour, from Logan to Coffs Habour towing, I recorded 12.4 L/100 km. The camper is full and so is the car. Three kids and two adults in the prado, we travelled up from the pacific highway (18 meters above sea level) right up across the Dorigo and over to Armidale. Only on kid spewed during this part of the trip, so that's a bonus. Spent about 60% of the time climbing in 3rd gear. We hit 1373 meters above sea level at the top of the range, it was a big climb. Made it home safe from Coffs Harbour. Pretty long day, packing up camp and travelling home across Dorrigo, thru Armidale and back down into the hunter valley. Got great fuel figures today, very happy with the Prado.

Dad wanted my to set up a 2nd battery in his old 100 series ex-cop four wheel drive wagon. I bought a few bits of gear from ABR Sidewinder. I used all the same gear I have fitted to my Prado. I have fitted the majority of the gear and twin batteries are working correctly thru the isolator. Tomorrow I'm going to run power to a fuse box in the back of the wagon, identical set up as my Prado.

And today I noticed how old his fuel filter looked. My old man is a farmer, ya know the old school type.. Don't touch it if it ain't broke.. I asked him when his last changed the filter ? 'Never have' he proudly replied, 'no need to, the light on the dash has never come on..' He has owned the Landcruiser for 11 years. I will change it tomorrow..

Finished off the 100 series wiring today. Ran big positive cable thru a auto reset breaker to the fuse box the in the back, fitted a cigar lighter point for mums engel and fitted an Anderson plug. Got 14.2 volts at idle off both batteries, the fuse box in the back of the cargo area and at the Anderson plug.

On the engine side of things I identified a small rear main crankshaft seal leak, changed the fuel filter for a new genuine toyota filter, fixed a small oil leak on the back of the turbo, tightened up all the intake and boost hose clamps on the engine and took about half an inch of slack out if the accelerator pedal. Bugger me, does it haul now ! I told mum to be careful when towing the horse float, as she will feel a big difference.

Picked up my new Roo systems double swag from Newcastle today. Bought it home and wet it down straight away. First impressions are the stitching looks okay and the foam bed is huge.
