I have Been driving the Prado for a week with the fresh exhaust set up and I'm very happy. After spending the last half and hour talking to Gavin at Dalby Diese Care, my next mod wil be a visit to Tammworth Diesel Care for a full dyno tune on the 150 and Steinbauer.


I ran the exhaust temps past him and he reckons 380/400 degrees crusing at 100 km/h is perfect. They hammer the Prado up to 720 degrees on the dyno and this is the cut off point. I have my idiot alarm set at 650 degrees and he reckons that is perfect. Funny enough I told him about the temp drop lowering the fine tune to position 2 o'clock, he reckons by dropping it to 12 o'clock, there would be bugger all performance difference, less black smoke and lower exhaust temps consistently. I will try a tank if fuel at 2 and then drop progressively to monitor the results and report accordingly.

Exhaust sounds great Matt. Can you notice it much outside the vehicle? How is the power now and fuel economy?

Pretty much standard noise with windows up. Abit of a grumble if you get into it abit. Fuel? Non idea yet will do checks over the next month.

Have to say its a treasure chest of information

I have just recently bought the same (2012 model) and found the fuel consumption figures a little different
Mine stock and I just done 1153 kilometres on 117 litres ( a mixture of highway and city driving)
My computer said I had averaged 9.9 litre per hundred and still had a range of 236k

Actual average was 9.85k litres per 100 so really couldn't get any more accurate than that so looks like they may have upgrade the computer

Yep in stock form they are brilliant on fuel. Fortunately, mine is far from stock

Much more to do.. Winch, steel sidesteps, bigger intercooler, long ranger fuel tank.. It's never gonna be finished !

I visited my dealer today for a chat about a few items. New clutch booked in for 20th of January. It's had a very noisy throw out bearing since day one and my friendly local dealership is doing the repairs under warranty as it's on 37,000 km old.


Pretty happy with this result..

Had 860mm height on rear end of Prado with a quarter tank of diesel. Dropped out the 30mm rear spacers and ended up with 840mm height. Tells me with the OME 896 HD rear springs I had about 10mm of compression. I think the 30mm superior engineering spacers would be fine with medium coils, not HD.


Will give it a run and see how it goes now. It's only a two beer job, so not real hard task.


Edit : after a good drive and everything settled back down. Ended up at 845mm height..

Filled fuel tank today. Much nicer ride with full tank than before. Only lost 5mm height adding 120 litres of diesel ! Good old OME springs...

Woo hoo 303.000 hits ! Bugger me, people must be bored.

Clutch was swapped out under warranty today. They found loose springs inside the pressure plate (explains the noises I had) the pressure plate was fine, as was the flywheel. New clutch feels heaps better to drive with, I reckon along with clutch plate springs, the pressure plate may have been dodgy also. I guess time will tell how it performs. Happy for now

Got my injector feedback values checked as well, all perfect !

About 1500 km since I fitted the Beaudesert exhaust system to my Prado. I had read on hilux forums that the D4D would adjust to the different exhaust flow etc, I thought this was rubbish. Well, I was wrong because my engine has changed a lot and the torque is heaps less peaky now, along with the power. Everything seems a lot smoother and there is a lot more pulling power across the board. It feels like I have picked up half an extra gear between each gear, if that makes sense ?


My combo, for those interested in what really works in a Prado. It's pretty easy to replicate.


1. High flow marine primary diesel filter fitted before the standard fuel filter.
2. Wind booster pedal module set at P1, full setting.
3. Steinbauer module, now set to the stock 12 o'clock setting on the fine tune.
4. Beaudesert 2.75 inch exhaust system.
5. Aftermarket non-vented catch can to stop oil mist being pushed thru the aftercooler.
6. Safari snorkel.
7. K&N high flow air filter on road, Toyota paper filter off road.
8. Only used BP diesel all it's life.


Happy as at the moment. Next on the list ? Winch then HD clutch..
