  • My new ride

I had been thinking of getting a 4x4 for a while now and after a bit decision making I settled on the prado.

After a bit of hunting around I picked up this 08 120 series manual, 6 speed turbo diesel with 90k on the clock. It is an ex-fleet from Avis and has been serviced every 10k give or take. I am still extremely happy with it, just have to sell the other car to get the finances to build this sucker up, Can't wait!

First on the list is wheels and tyres looking at the 98 series pro-comps for the wheels and thinking about the Coopers s/t Maxx, only thing that is putting me off is the price. Have been quoted $423 a tyre.

Also the dealership just replaced the front windscreen.

You might want to read the Tyres and Wheels thread for opinions on the ST Maxx, it may help with your decision making process.

          Welcome vj.mojo
Good choice for the tires, I have them on mine and there a great tyre.
There is plenty of reading in the 120 section re tires. I had to do a lift as well due to a little rubbing but all good now.
Don't read too much as it becomes proportional eg the more you read the more you spend.
Hope you enjoy the new rig

          Regards Adam
Yep.....I have a Prado just like you

            Thanks for the welcome.

Have been hunting around and getting a price on a 2" lift kit, the tyre shop quoted $1550 inc alignment but don't know what springs and shocks he will use, the other is a 4x4 shop and has quoted $1700 inc alignment and brake performance, pretty sure the shocks and springs are OME.

But for now will look at some tyre deflators and a compressor.

Good choice mate...........recently bought the same vehicle.........Very happy with the fuel economy and performance........I put the GX steelies on mine.......it was fitted with yokie geos just before i bought it so i'll stick with them for the time being and look at either dick cepeks or BFG A/T's down the track.

Mine had 55k on it when i purchased but now has just over 60k..........picked mine up for $36k.....Mind if i ask how much you paid?

I paid 30k for it, It also came with a 200l (I think) long range tank and a cargo barrier, First 4x4 I have owned, got it for going away and access some beaches for fishing.

Just tying to find the best prices around Perth, Never knew how expensive roof racks are (alloy 3/4). Wanting to get an x-rox bull bar they look unreal.

                My list keeps growing.

The 120 series Prado comes with 180ltr tanks (2 x 90ltr tanks) standard.

Half the fun is shopping around though - plus there is plenty of great advice on here.

Thanks for the info I will certainly look into the second filter set-up and inspection camera for the next service.

Noticed engine is quieter with fuel from BP and the engine is noisier the colder it is but I have asked a around and they have said this is normal, but will look into the injectors a bit more

When I bought the vehicle I was able to get a 3 year 90k new car warranty so they should be under warranty, just have to prove that they need replacing.

Got it's 90K service done yesterday, also asked the mechanic about the engine noise, after I picked it up he said it was all sweet and sounds normal, he said he could check the injectors by plugging it in to the computer but wouldn't worry cause everything sounds and looks good. Also the mechanic says they are ex-Toyota mechanics.

Will get them checked, last night on the way home (at night with the misses driving behind me) noticed smoke when I gave it the beans in 2nd in the headlights behind me, asked the misses but she didnt notice anything. Any ideas, cheers. I done the same thing today but could not see any smoke.

Will get the injectors tested next service, trying not to get paranoid it's starting to take the fun away, the prado's under warranty, anyway had other things happening.

Also got word on the pro-comp 98 series rims I wanted, The shop wont get them in, pro-comp told them will have to many issues on a prado, so ordered a set of the Dynamics to find out that they don't make the ones to suit a prado any more. Just use the tyres I got until they're dead.
