      New Drawers

I decided that it was time for some drawers in the back. On my last car I made these myself and they turned out great and was intending doing something similar in the Prado. But work and time commitments would have meant that it would have taken me ages, so I decided to get some professional ones installed. After looking around at lots of different systems, I decided on a Drifta setup. So a couple of months ago I ordered a false floor, fridge box with ORS fridge slide, vertical removable table, two custom sized drawers that would be able to suit my work needs during the week, as well as side wings. I already have an ARB fridge slide, but this does not extend out far enough to open the fridge top fully, the ORS slide extends out a lot further, so an almost new ARB slide will be on fleabay very soon.

I was going to get Drifta to freight down the drawers from their place in Gloucester in northern NSW to Melbourne, but as I had to visit some clients in the Gosford area, I decided to drive up and have them fitted. The area around Gloucester is beautiful and if I had more time I would have loved to have had a good look around the area, but it was a work trip after all, so the touring will have to wait for another time.

Mark, Julie and the crew at Drifta were terrific, after speaking with Mark on the installation, he threw me the keys to a Hilux and gave me a voucher for the local cafe and off I went for a liesurely brunch. A couple of hours later I headed back and it was all done. Once I got home I installed all the electricals for fridge etc and it is all ready to go. I must say that I am very impressed with the Drifta setup, the drawers slide extremely well, easily as well as bearing systems and they are much lighter. I also liked that you can custom design just about anything you want with Drifta.

      Here are some pics:

Fully fitted, see the electricals at the left side. I have put in a Baintech voltmeter, Baintech double USB outlet, two cig sockets and two merit sockets, plus a seperate merit socket hidden from view for the fridge.

          Phone Cradle

          Hi all,

after having one for my last car I recently installed a Clic-on car cradle for my phone in the car. It is a cradle that holds and charges the phone and is hard-wired to the second battery. Installation was easy, cost fairly expensive at $186.00 from holdmyphone.com.au. But I have had this type before and they are very good.

            halfpast,

The Drifter install looks great, seems that each time I read up on people that get drifter to install it there is always a very positive experienced.
Love the Power sockets on the left with the Baintech!! did you do that? or did drifter accommodate?

            bernie.

Drifta fitout looks bloody great. I'm contemplating getting them to build some extras to complement my black widow drawers.

Also, where are the sheep skin covers from?

                Thanks Bernie

Yes, love the Drifta, I must say it was a very easy experience to deal with them. The only thing I would do differently would be to spend some more time up in the Gloucester area if I was going there to get them fitted. Everyone I have shown it to in the flesh thinks it is great, with the best comments for the vertical table and how easy the drawers slide.

I did the electrics, when I put in the dual battery, I ran a heavy duty wire to the back of the car to an Anderson plug, then I attached a fuse block to the side of the Drifta that I could plug into the Anderson plug and all the accessories are run from that fuse block. That way when I take the drawers out I just unplug the electrics and it all comes out easily.

                  Hi Wooley

The sheepskins are from a guy called Eric in Knox, Vic. Mercedes Sheepskin Products http://www.woollen-products.com.au/

Again, very easy to deal with, even came in early one morning so that I could pick them up. Can't recall the type or price, but I will look it up on the receipt later and let you know. I have had them since March and they have been perfect so far.

Haven't done much lately, been way to busy with that work stuff.

I had a straight through muffler installed just over a week ago. First impressions are that the hesitation when starting off is very much improved. If that is the only improvement, then that would be enough for me. The car feels like it is breathing easier and so far the fuel economy looks better. Previously I would get low 11's on thr trip computer for driving around town. While I have only done one tank since the change, it has been sitting around 10.3-10.4 most of the time.

Cost $170 installed at Lilydale Mufflers, not a brand name one, just a generic one. Very happy with the results so far.

Current project is installing a new reverse light. Half done, will post some pictures when I get some time to finish it.

I have built a set of draws for my prado 150 gxl and plan on removing the third row seats and want to buy the drifta false floor but I want to make sure that iam going to be able to secure my draws somehow to it. Might be able to adapt the drifta mounting system to my draws. thanks in advance

Hi there oabrady, I attached the drawers and fridge box to the false floor by using insert nuts and bolting to these. You can get them from Bunnings or online. It is important that you install the insert nuts from below, because as you tighten the bolts from the drawers it pulls the nuts up, so if you insert them from above, it can pull them out.

Hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Mark, I would have never thought of using insert nuts. You've solved my problem.
