I've played around with a couple of ideas for the mounting of a 2nd fridge recently, but I have been impressed with them. Now I'm thinking I may get rid of my 40L Engel and 80L esky and replace them with a 78L ARB Fridge. With the increased weight and size I'd like to get the fridge on the floor instead of on the drawer. A trip to ARB on Friday saw me pick up their largest fridge slide which will hold my esky this time, and the new fridge next time.

I made a template of the space in the rear and cut out a piece of 9mm MDF. The mounting points will be the 3rd row seat anchor points and the cargo barrier anchor point. A quick spray of matt black paint and she's all done. If this works out ok, I'll swap out the MDF for a sheet of 17mm plywood and then add a 2nd drawer on top of the 1st.

I also picked up a wind break for my awning from ARB which will allow both my son's and my sway to be totally under cover whilst we are away.
    Hi Dan
Just spotted on Gummie, a 78ltr ARB fridge located at Col Light Gardens.
    Cheers

    • Very tempting Troy. Bit of a shame I have to sell my Engel and slide to help fund the purchase. Don't think I could sell it quick enough.

            • Well after spending a couple of days getting rid of the dust from the inside of the car, it's time to post some pics of my recent trip.

With my 10yr old son on board, we drove part of the Oodnadatta Track, visited Coward Springs, Dalhousie Springs, Lake Eyre, Mount Dare, Lamberts Geographical Center of Australia, Finke and Uluru. I had planned on doing the Mereenie Loop but events back home meant I missed that part. Weather was a little warmer than I expected, with the lowest daytime temp. of 35 degrees and the highest 38 degrees. The flies at Peake Railway Ruins where we spent a night were very friendly.

The road to Dalhousie via Pedrika Ruins was disgusting with washouts and deep sand in places. The road out of Dalhousie Springs to Mt Dare was littered with rocks and I lost a couple of D shackles. Once we arrived at Mt Dare, the owner told me that we were lucky/unlucky on our way to Dalhousie, as the ranger closed the road around lunch time (not long after we got on it).

I've gotta say that parts of the Oodnadatta Track are in 10 times better condition than some of the roads here in Adelaide. It doesn't take long for you to know you're in SA once you cross the border because the Highway is a lot narrower and in poorer condition.

We had a great trip but I have learnt that I would rather go on a trip in a small group than on my own. There were times when we didn't see anyone else for hours and you start thinking 'what if something went wrong?' when you're on your own.

The best part of going bush is no people! I prefer it when we go days without seeing anyone Sat phone and HF just in case gives good peace of mind.

Good to see you out enjoying the outback and the Prado Daniel.

                Cheers Andrew

                      • Exhaust Broken

I had a phone call earlier today from the wife saying that the car is making a weird noise. Apparently it happens when you accelerate and stops when you get to about 80km/h. She tried to get me to hear it over the phone but it wasn't possible. As I was in a rush to get my son to a soccer game when she got home, I just jumped in the Prado and took off. Man was it loud, but it sounded like the exhaust had a hole in it. Mind you, there was nothing wrong with it last night when I was driving to and from the movies.

Anyway, I have just been underneath the car and found what is in the photo attached. I have never seen this happen before, but it's one serious case of metal fatigue.

Looks like I'm up for a new section of exhaust from the dump pipe.

Cough, cough. Since I'm suddenly not feeling well and will need to call in sick tomorrow morning, I may as well get the exhaust fixed at the same time.

                              • Just added a couple of lights in the cargo area to help when rummaging around for food whilst away. The courtesy light just didn't cut it.

Power comes from the 2nd battery fuse block which is placed in the cargo area so it was just a simple job. These lights were all of $3.50 a pair including postage from Hong Kong. How could I say no?
