Careful with the ol' Bunnings brackets there Gramps. I've read elsewhere that they just don't seem to have the durability of other brackets that are made for the job. On one occasion I read the front bracket had a failure, with the awning nose diving into the ground whilst the back bracket remained attached. Not good.
Might pay to visit a roof rack specialist shop, or an ARB store. Whilst they were a bit more than Bunnings would charge, I think the cost of proper brackets was quite reasonable.NOW FOR SALE!!! - 2004 Silver GXL 3lt 4spd Auto - ARB Bullbar, Safari Snorkel, Redarc Dual Battery System, Cooper ST MAXX, Dark Tint, IPF900XS spots, Raised Bilstein/Kings Suspension/Firestone Airbags, Autosafe Cargo Barrier, Sandgrabbers, Rola Roof Rack Stuff, Insect Screen, Dust/Wind Deflectors, Sheepskin/Black Duck Seatcovers, GME TX3510, ARB underbonnet compressor, Allied Hammer Rims, ARB UVP, AJ Sliders

Pretty much same brackets as mine gramps. Same method of fixing too (where did you get that idea ;p ) . I've had no probs and had the awning on for a good 18 months. My guess with the so called 'bracket failure' would be nuts coming loose. Probably didn't use nylocks etc.....Diesel Prado with various things...

I plan on making up a 3rd bracket for the middle roof rail which should nulify breakage from either of the other 2. At least this way if 1 of the 3 brackets let go, I won't lose the awning as well.
Ian, you're a wealth of Knowledge even if it did hurt drilling through the roof rails.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Installed one of AMTS's new spacers this afternoon. Another quality piece of kit. In the new year I plan on grabbing the light pole and installing the work light I won at the GTG.
Earlier in the week a 7 inch fan arrived in the post. Bought from an eBay seller for $28. If I get a chance this weekend it'll be mounted on the intercooler. I was going to have it activated via a temp switch, but since most of the benefit will come at low speeds, a manual switch will do. Slow speed work when airflow is at it's lowest will be the only time it's turned on.
Not sure if I'll get a chance this weekend to work on the rig as it's the mrs's birthday, but when she goes off to work I might be able to grab a couple of hours. Photo's to come.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Can anyone give me a link to wire up the thermo fan? I've looked around the net but can't find anything that helps me.
I'm using a Narva 5 pin relay with resistor and a 5 pin switch which will be located in the cabin.
Thanks in advance.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Here's where I'm up to so far:
Fan installed and wired up to the relay.Power from fuse block to relay.
Now I have to get the switch installed and work out which pin get's connected to what. I know I need to hook up to the accessories, go from the switch to the relay and find an earth in the cabin. A little more research should get me the info I need.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Better late than never, I finally finished the thermo fan install this morning. I placed the switch (post #104) in the blank from the centre console just forward of the gear selector. Power for the fan is straight from the 2nd battery with fuse, whilst the power for the switch light comes from the 12v power outlet in the centre console. This way I can leave the fan running with the engine turned off.
The hardest part of the install was getting a wiring diagram for the carling switch. For my future reference, and anyone else's, here's the diagram for the pin layout I used:

I thought I'd never say it, but I think it's time to upgrade the wife. Just ran through a couple of upcoming mods and her verdict was, "you know you can do too much".
What!!!!!!!!! Has she seen some of the rigs on this sight?
I've got a feeling I've just been taught a lesson. 'Don't tell her what I'm about to do, just tell her what I've done.'
She's still a good one though. I'll give her one more chance.Last edited by Gramps; 04-01-2013, 08:19 PM.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Just installed an AMTS work light bracket along with the work light I won at the GTG. A little help from the lad and it was up and running in an hour.
As the wife parks it in a public carpark all day, everything has to be able to be removed. This means installation had to be different from what Andrew intended, but it works for me.
I'll get some photos sometime over the weekend. I'm off in the morning to Burra Gorge for a night away from home with my 2 boys and their cousin so I'm not sure when I'll get to log on again.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.
