Finally have started building up my Altitude. Have loved reading others threads and love the site so thought I'd try and contribute. As I write this I have just picked it up from its first over night stay at ARB and this is what it now has added.
1. Arb sahara winch bar, colour coded. My reasons for picking this bar are detailed in another thread. Now that its fitted I can say it is an excellent job, with consistent gaps and well finished with pinch weld where the bumper was cut etc. Also I think the colour match is about as good as you could expect and to my eyes at least no different to the factory finnish.
2. IP900 XS spots, one spread and one spot. I prefer these to the lightforce units, just my taste I guess. These are the third set I have had and I have had no complaints thus far. I like that they are water proof and I had them fitted with the theft proof lock nuts, having had one set stolen previously.
3. Safari Snorkel. Obvious reasons. i've lost one car to water ingress, so hopefully this will prevent this happening again. I chose this over the others available due to the ability to reverse the head in very dusty conditions, and I thought it was better made than the competition. Also the ability to fit a cyclone attachment was a bonus. the fitting job again is excellent and they also sealed up the holes in the air cleaner box, to further prevent water ingress.
4. Warn XD9000 winch. Now this one I tossed and turned over. Given that I am planning a couple of big trips next year, Including the Cape, I was always planning to fit a winch, just not perhaps this early in the build. Whild I would have prefered to do suspension and tires first, I was swayed by the reuced fitting cost of having It installed at the same time as the Bar. ($400). perhaps I'll never need it, but i guess part of the plan is being self sufficent, so I feel suitable reassured. Given i don't expect it will see a lot of use I opted against some of the larger more powerful units, I think this will be enough for my needs. In hindsight i might have gone with Plasma rope for weight savings.
Via ebay the car also has a set of rubber genuine floor mats and headlight / bonnet protectors. So far that's it. I have many other mods planned, suspension and tires next probably but I have been promised a UHF for Fathers day. My philosophy is to buy as good as you can afford without going over the top so it may not be the fastest build you will see as I need to save for each bit but hopefully it will become my interpretation of a safe solid reliable and ultimatley capable family touring wagon. I look forward to feed back and advice as I go.
