Interesting to read about the injectors, when I had my 80 series it was starting to blow a little bit of smoke on start up and had over 150,000 km's on the clock.
Having read that the injectors should be changed at 150,000km, I started stressing over how much it was going to cost, so I started ringing around to get prices on new or re-conditioned injectors.
I rang three companies, told them what the car was doing and how many K's it had done, and all three said don't touch them! They should last twice that distance and only to replace them if they actually needed replacing, the same as your machnic said.
