  • How do you find the plastic inserts you've used to assemble the aluminium drawer frames? I guess they would have to be around 3-4mm thick to keep the strength.
Can I ask where you picked them up from?

    cheers

    • Some nice touches and great ideas in this rig build. I particularly like what you did with the light bar. Love the look of the muddies, well done.

      • This week i have received the final parts for the drawers and grabbed a sheet of ply from work last night.

I am off on Thursday so will be aiming to have them finished then and then will just need to carpet them.

        • Some how i have missed the replys here..

Heath, Thanks mate. The rear lights have not caught on anything 'yet', I'm not sure that they ever will and recessing them in the bar as much as possible has definately minimised the chances.

Gramps, The plastic joiners are very strong and made it so easy to build. I picked them up from Bunnings aswell as the aluminium square tube. Nice and strong and you probably don't need to rivet it together but for extra strength and piece of mind i did.

Peterpilot, Thanks mate. The lightbar gets a lot of looks and comments from people thinking it was 'an optional extra' from factory. I just laugh.

          • No photos but the drawers had some more work done on them today. I fitted the runners and cut out the face panel. Thought i would have been able to get more done but mounting runners is a hell of a job. I am off again on Tuesday so hope to have the drawers all cut out and screwed together and mounted, then will just have to carpet it and finally it will be all done!

              • The drawers are ALMOST finished.

There are still a few minor things to complete like spacers under the side wings, panel to close of the back of the drawers behind the rear seats, put mounts in for the boards that will sit on top of the folded down seats etc but they are mostly finished.

I am really happy with how they have turned out.

Hopefully in the next week or so all the building will be done and then i can carpet them. You'll notice in the left drawer it has some compartments, these are for my recovery gear, Tred boards etc.

                Heres some photos.

                        • Thanks guys, very happy with the drawers and so far the dearest parts have been the runners bringing the total to jus under $500.

The tyres are 265/70/17, they are the equivelant of about 32" and dwarf the stockies. I was very surprised that with the lift I have how much they fill the heard a out. My speedo is out by 5k's though so 60 on the clock is actually 65 but I wouldn't have it any other way. I really like the big horns and am so glad I went them instead of the mickeys.

                          • They are some of the neatest drawers I have seen on here!

Just wondering, how have you fixed them down?

And whats your logic behind offsetting the centre tie down points on the top?

                            • Off setting I would say is due to the frame work underneath ?? Could be wrong.. Wouldn't have got that middle one dead centre due to countersunk would have hit framework..... Cheers Steve

                              • Madkore - thankyou! They are anchored with the holes for the existing tie down points.

And Steve is in the money, the frame underneath prevents them being centred and I could have out them both down the same side but doing it this way gives more flexibility for tieing things down.
