  • Tracker's rig build

Hi all just finished fitting new shocks and springs to the old prado, have to say read through all the different ways of doing it and yes the passenger side shock was a pain in the ass as my prado is a vx and it has all the brake lines right next to where the shock bolts on plus i had a big gas pipe running right where my arm was to access the small area i had. Anyway solution, Drilled hole through floor and the nightmare job turned into a 5 minute nut off nut on job. I cant understand why nobody does this its so simple, just poke a long drill but up through the hole of the shock tower hit it with a hammer to mark the spot to drill then drill down through the inside of the car a hole, then long socket onto nut shock is out. Paint the fishoil hole put grommet in and nobody is the wiser and makes a hell of alot easier job next time if you want to replace the shock. Anyway went with heavy duty king springs and kyb shocks, absolutely beautiful ride not to harsh and its lifted it the 2 inches which was what i wanted. All up it cost me 800 bucks so all in all happy with everything.

      Welcome Tracker!

Another way to get easy access to the shocks is to perform a body lift first, hehe

Btw, what kind of steps/sliders do you have there?

After bashing the standard side steps ive gone the el cheapo for the moment and just got some rectangle tube cut it to size painted it black and bolted it to the orginal side step brackets. It lifts the step up a bit and is alot stronger then the original. When i get some time i will make some proper sliders up but they work well for the time being and only cost me 30 bucks

Careful; if the square tube is even remotely stronger than the original side steps, then when you hit something, you're just going to damage the mounting points instead, which are part of the body work. Even with the original alloy steps, mine started to bend the mounting points, so I just took the steps off.

2" lift and 265/75R16 shouldn't rub. With -15 offset alloys, my old 265/75R16 MTZ's rubbed only a TINY bit at the rear, during MAX compression.

BTW - We try to keep these posts to a particular subject. If you'd like further information about tyres, try searching or posting in the wheels section: http://www.pradopoint.com/forumdispl...2890-Series%29

                snorkel and HId lights fitted

Just finished fitting a snorkel the other day along with some Hid lights. I decided to go the cheaper way out by purchasing a chinese one at $125 instead of the safari. Thoughts so far, easy to fit just cut holes prime and paint and also fish oiled guards, then bolted straight on and connected with ease. Plastic seems really sterdy and all in all looks really good. Will give some feed back over time on how it stands up. Again i went the cheap way out with some 9 inch chinese hid lights. Easy fitment again and work really well brighter then i expected and look good on the ARB bar. I decided to go the cheap way out on these items after buying a chinese awning for 150 bucks. After alot of use of the awning it has stood up to being knocked against trees while four wheel driving, high winds camping and alot of general use. I will report back in after a while to let you know how it all stands up but for now all good and really surprised on the quality.

a quick reply to let you know how the suspension is going. Ride is fantastic and with heavy duty springs i havent noticed any sag what so ever. The combination of heavy duty kings and kyb scorched 4s seems to give both good ride on road and offroad

I picked up an awning on the weekend in Sydney for $159. 2.5m x 2m from the mob that stock Tigerz 11 gear... Cheap as chups!!

The rig looks good by the way!
