  • Squish's 2008 GXL D4D

I don't have too many mods to on my 2008 120 Series GXL D4D, but here is the short list so far:

    ARB Deluxe Bullbar
    IPF Extreme spotties
    GME Tx3340 UHF
    Toyota tow bar
    Hayman Reese electric brake unit
    treg hitch
    HEMA Hn6 GPS
    Mud Mats
    ARB 90lt fridge
    Tradesman roof rack
    Kaymar spare spacer
    Black Widow drawer system
Black Widow cargo barrier, top shelf & divider

Today was an exciting day for me - I finally had OME suspension fitted (after 4 years of owing the car). Interestingly, ARB estimated the lift in advance to be approx 25mm front & 40mm rear (#885 springs front & #896 springs rear). It ended up being 45mm front & 50mm in the rear! I was a little apprehensive on how the ride would be, but am very happy with the result.

I even remembered to take before and after photos:

I'll list the actual before/after heights when I find where I put the paperwork......

Next will be new tyres, and after clocking up 86,000km's on my 265/65R17 BFG AT's, I'm now leaning towards a set of 265/70R17 Cooper ST Maxx's......?

    Cheers

Nice stuff squish! Some people would say you have the pic of the Prado's with a 2008 GXL D4D, they certainly are well sought after.

What has made you sway toward the Coopers over the BFG's?

I'm looking for a tread pattern between an all terrain & a mud terrain. The coopers ST Maxx seem to fit the bill...?

If the tyres had been rotated during the last 30,000 km's I would have got much more out of them too. I'm looking for more grip in the orange clay in the hills, and could very well end up with some BFG KM2's, but they don't last anywhere near as long.....

I've found the ARB suspension paperwork, so here are the pre & post lift measurements:

          Pre Lift
          Front 745/740
          Rear 770/775

          Post Lift
          Front 790 both sides
          Rear 830 both sides

A week or so & I should have the new rubber sorted....

I've done 2,000 kms on the new suspension now & I absolutely love it. I'm surprised on how good the ride is, both around town and in the bush.

The thought of changing brand of tyres after 15 years had me feeling like I was cheating on someone, so I'm sticking with BFG. I've bought one more AT, and will splash out on some KM2's early next year.

On the hunt for a new arial for the UHF now, as the old one didn't handle the corrugations on my bush testing very well:

I just googled the Bushcomm. Looks great, but $$ ouch!

Nicely spotted on the headlight protector. It's been a month of breaking stuff, arial, headlight protector, fog lamp. Nothing major luckily.......

I thought I'd put up a pic of my GME Tx3340 UHF install, as I reckon it is quite neat:

The unit is behind the centre dash, and the jack fits nicely below the ashtray.

There is a metal frame behind where I've mounted the handset bracket, so it will never fall off. I like being able to keep the hand piece in the glovebox out of sight when I'm not using it.

You will notice that the break control unit is in the usual spot

After much deliberation I've ordered a set of 275 65 17 BFG AT's to go on tomorrow. Looking forward to finally getting new rubber...

One could say I came to my senses & stayed with BFG

Here is a pic of the new 275/65 17 rubber at Lake Cobbler and up at Sterling.

They were great in the bush, the speedo is now correct on the highway & I'm really happy with the size.

                        Cheers

                          Pretty stoked

Not cheap - 4K fitted inc cargo barrier, top shelf and divider, and there apparently was price increase in Feb (I ordered mine in Jan)…….
