  • Big day today.

Met AJ120 at his house and got to see his pride and joy in the flesh. Very impressive. Thank you for taking time out of your day to see me.

Them cruised in to Adelaide and met up with AMTS. Whilst their managed to convince him to "test" fit a set of his plates to the shorty. Low and behold they fit.
So now I have a set of limited edition gold plates for the shorty. I am really impressed with them. Thank you very much AMTS.

    • Looks good but I'm guessing you'll need to get those plates powdercoated or they will rust.

Na just an excuse to go out more! Plates starting to rust so need to go 4WDing. Sounds good to me.

        • Hey SOL,

Very nice bash plates. One question, and I suppose this is for Amts as well,
Do you have front recovery points?
The wings at the front of the plate look like they are right where my recovery points are mounted.

So I'm thinking that I'll need a slot cut in them right at the fold of wing, if I was to fit a set

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

          • What a great day you have had Sol
Those under body protection plates will serve you well.
And to meet the Pradopoint Guru as well, hope you checked out the AJ Rear Bar- top effort that!
            Cheers
            Troy

p.s. Hey Geoff The bash plate will not foul the fitment of front recovery points as these usually attach at the radiator support side of the chassis rails.

Great to meet you SOL. Sure was a lot of arm twisting to get those plates fitted on the spot. And thanks for the drive in the shorty.

They won't rust as they have been plated already. Powdercoating is actually a bit porous so if there is no plating underneath, the metal will eventually succumb to the elements.

As foxclan has replied, the plates are well within the side chassis rails and won't interfere with recovery points.

                    • So after playing with the set up in the rear. I have decided to keep the left hand rear seat in for now and just remove it for trips.
But I have taken the right hand rear out. This makes a huge difference.

The above shows how much space is now available. 1100mm long to the foot well drop off. by 380mm wide.

The above photo is looking back from the drivers seat. I can strap the fridge down the the rear seat mounting points.
This then leaves me space in front for other gear like my med kit that will hang off the fridge handle. Out of the way but still accessible.

                        • Okay been struggling to work out my fuel load to gauge . So drained the tank and filled it using seven jerry cans. Took photos of the fuel gauge after each jerry can. I drained the tank when the fuel light came on. Had about thirty litres in the container once it had finished draining.

                            130L. It only took 10L.

So fuel total in to tank was 130L.

                            SOL.

Very nice rig mate, let me know if you’re keen for a drive one day. I'm always looking at getting out for a bit!
I did head over to Telstra Hill for a look the other week, not bad, the hill work was nice and tracks everywhere too.
