I had a very fruitful modding day on Friday (8/11). Things ticked off the list were :-
1) Roadsafe Recovery Points fitted – these are the newer design for the 150 that works with TJM bars without any overlapping of washers, etc. New 12.9 HT bolts used for all fixing points too.
2) Tigerz11 Winch Solenoid Box fitted to the TJM bullbar and all wired up. Also re-connected the IPFs that we disconnected when we first tried to fit the winch. The solenoid box is tucked in next to the winch in the main channel section of the bar. Access to the controller plug is via the access hole in the front of the bar.
Winch power isolator :-
3) Ironman Underbody Protection plates fitted – No more smashed up factory tin foil under the engine LOL. I still have the old plates should I ever need to put them back.
Not a bad day’s work eh? Wish I could claim I did it all myself but no I had it done as I knew by the time me and Mr Fido got around to it there would be no warranty left on any of it LOL. OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration but our weekends tend to fill up with other things and time to work on the Prado is sorely lacking.
The recovery points and winch solenoid mounting were done at Smithie's Outback Gear in Cranbourne, Vic. Troy the new manager there was my contact at Roadsafe when all the point redesign stuff was going on. It took his fitter a few hours to do all the work by the time he pulled the grille apart, installed things, and tidied up cables, etc. I didn't have to pay anything for the points and their installation (my original ones were chopped during the re-design and Troy kept good on his promise to supply and fit the new ones once available). I did pay to get the winch box mounted though, that was a more fiddly job.
The bash plates I had done at Ironman’s Vic HQ in Dandenong South, the place is massive! Went there on my way back from Smithie's to have a look at them and they offered to install them while I waited. “Go for it” I said, “saves me coming back or struggling under the Prado on ramps”. Paul the sales guy even made me a cup of tea while I waited and gave me a showbag of goodies (Ironman stubby holder, sticker, and an Ironman branded bottle of water LOL). At $470 for the full set of plates and installation it's pretty good value.
So while it would have been very satisfying to do it all ourselves I decided for a couple of hundred dollars in fitting costs it’s all done in a day and a much neater job then I could have done.
Will post up some more/better pics when I get a chance.
