So put the 150 on the hoist at Dads last night to change the oil and give it a service, so what did we find.... Bent and twisted bash plates ( to be expected with no lift 4x4ing) bent and broken side step middle bracket (was a momentous from a friendly log on the Vic Tech day run) and a decent chip in my not so old BFG. they've done about 8000 km.

Not too happy about the last one, just a part of our expensive hobby!

And the ARB compressor is running again.. A dodgy scotch lock on the ignition feed, spliced and soldered, never to be a problem again. And that's why I'm not a fan of scotch locks! Taking the Jayco to Swan Hill for Easter then next weekend I need to get a few jobs sorted ready for our week @ Fraser with the Vic Crew.

I had those BFGs on my 150 Josh when I first bought it too. They were changed out by the dealer for the Bridgestones I have now to comply with Vic size regulations at the time. The BFGs were only about 1 year old and I didn't notice any signs of chipping on them but I think the previous owner was pretty gentle with it. They did seem to be quite a hard compound tyre though, maybe they just don't "give" easily when a big rock hits them.

My bash plates don't look anything like that LOL but I didn't think they were quite that fragile!

I've been running BFG on various utes for he last 12 years or so, but haven't had a chip out like that before, hmmm maybe that's because the 150 has a little more power than my old 2.0 l Hilux. Milk and coke are the only things that should be two litre! As for the bash plates well they're probably not designed to be punished in the Otways and the big split in the front was Strickland Spur at the start of the year!

I delivered JPH Dobinsons lift kit this morning,
Watch Josh put it in, what a machine!

                Looking good

Should settle to a perfect 50mm lift.

We went for a drive, this suspension combo is is impressive so far!
                Ohhh what a feeling Dobinsons.........

So it was a busy morning in Dads workshop today, I pinched a hoist about 0830 and set the 150 up to start the suspension upgrade. By the time ############# had cruised down the highway I had the wheels off and the back end stripped ready for new springs and shocks, we had also started pulling apart the fronts. When Anthony arrived it was straight to business as I had to be out by 1230 and the old man needed the hoist for an oil change. So the three of us hooked in, fitted up the rear end in lighting speed. A few differing opinions between the two mechanics, but old spanna's Workshop so his rules and methods win!

The front's came out reasonably easy and a bit of a tense moments changing the springs over and fitting up the new set up, all in all the old threaded spring compressor held well under the stress! With the fronts back in we did a quick front to rear rotation and got it finished off, with time for a few photos, test drive and bolt on the driving lights, quick spot of Subway for lunch and I was running late!

Thanks to the old man once again for using his workshop and to Anthony for the delivery and helping me out, now I suppose I need to make the stuff for your workshop to make us even!

Back end stripped of suspension awaiting the new goodies.

The new and old rear coils, bigger, thicker, stronger!

The new front coils, curly wurly, yes it's all in the length and thickness

                    Off the hoist, and wowsers!

So we fitted dobinsons C59-352 raised 40 mm ( with bulbar and winch) coils to the fronts with GS59-700 struts to the front and C59-327 raised 45 mm with 100 -300 kg Gvm coils and GS59-701 shocks to the rear.

So what have we achieved... Currently from the floor to the guard, through the centre of the axle, the same as my last measurements 930 at the front and 960 at the rear. Obviously this will settle down but wow, that's 70 mm at the front and 60 mm at the rear, that's a big difference at quite noticeable getting in and out.

Freakin awesome! I have also noticed greatly improved handling and ride comfort! Woohoo, lets see how it settles with a trip to Fraser and back!

                      A couple more shots..

I even gave it a quick wash, as suspected the latest pins stripes haven't washed out!

                      Cheers

Certainly will be interesting. The added height clearance will be handy, will save me dragging my arse or playing bulldozer with my bash plates as much!
