  • Barney's 2013 T/Diesel Kakadu

    Hello everyone,

I have ordered my 2013 Diesel Kakadu in black with the black trim which should be ready for delivery in April.

The items I have picked up already are:

    Black dash mat (ebay)
    Tinted bonnet protector (ebay)
Toyota fitted rubber floor mats front, mid and rear (ebay)
    60 Ltr ARB fridge
    LED internal globes (ebay)
Spot light switch - toyota look-a-like (ebay)
    Maxtrax
airhorn (ebay) because the standard horn sounds like a hairdresser's Yaris
    Window tint (tint-a-car) deposit paid

    Ordered from ARB

Deluxe colour coded bullbar with fog light kit
    Sidebars
    Under vehicle protection
    Safari snorkel
GME 3540 UHF radio and AE4702 antenna
    ARB under bonnet compressor
    Warn 9.5XP winch
    Alloy roof rack
    IPF 900xs HIDs
Dual battery with the Redarc isolator
    Redarc BCDC1225 Battery charger
    Hayman Reece towbar
    Anderson plug for future camper
    Redarc electric brake controller

    Wish list

Chip and exhaust upgrade - possibly Chipit or roo system
Suspension - I think I am more confused after reading the threads on here, I might try again sober as it may make more sense

Anyway, Standby for further updates and photos when the beast arrives. I am excited!!

    Regards

Hi Barney congratulations on the order! You also have an extensive shopping list on order...awesome stuff! With all that weight going on the front end, you will need a suspension solution ASAP.

Also, the 2013 kaka has the rdar/anti collision setup as standard which means a specific bullbar from ARB. It also means you cannot run ANT spotlights on the bar as it will obstruct the radar. Unfortunately, there is no manual overide or OFF switch for this radar system. I ended buying a 2011 model for this reason.

good luck with the research. cheers.

      Cheers bfranzen,

I have been looking at the option of upgrading the front spring only to allow for the additional weight up front which would retained the KDSS functionality, but I think I with have to bite the bullet and upgrade the whole suspension.

I am not sure about the radar sys as ARB told me the system still works with the IPF spots as it is a narrow beam that will pass between the lights? I am planning to mount the winch solenoid in the engine bay and relocating the front camera somewhere once I get the vehicle.

      I am open to ideas.....

I am glad to here that the system works with the IPF spots. I think your's maybe positioned a bit further back as the Toyota bar is quite a snug fit. Have you lost much of the vision on the front camera due to the bar and spots?

When you put the BB on, you will encounter the KDSS lean. Full suspension upgrade will sort this.

On the Anti collision issue, I would double chaeck again with ARB making sure that they fully understand all the details. 6 months ago, Toyota didn't vene understand the technology.

good to know about the Toyota BB and IPF's though.

            good luck.

              Agree with CJSILK.
I have a November 2012 Kakadu with the ARB deluxe bar. I have installed light force genesis 210 and had no problems or interferance, even when the Roos jump out at ya it still operates correctly. Mind you I have mounted them as far apart as possible for clear vision for the radar. I will post my rig build when I get a chance to!!!
As for the suspension, I'm looking into a 2" lift (bilstein shocks and dobbins springs possibly new air bags from air bag man to suit the lift) CAL Offroad have just released a kit but I'm doing more research before I commit.
And yes with all that gear, the front will sag just as mine did....
2012 Graphite Kakadu, bush pin striping, BFG's and everything you can think of !!!

You can get Kings KTFS-121 which is suited for KDSS. It is the standard height springs which should bring you back to normal height once you put the accessories on. This is if you don't want to lose the comfort settings and retain the shocks.

This is the setup I am looking at through WA Suspension at the moment, but they have advised me that this setup will still suffer the dreaded kakadu lean as the majority do once the front is loaded up. I think I read on one the threads that a spacer can be inserted to assist with the lean?

Those King springs are slightly different lengths specifically to cater for KDSS lean, I'm looking at them myself for that very reason.

I am glad to hear that the spots and bar do not interfere with the radar/collision system. I was looking at the Genesis lights but thought they would be too large. I may rethink the IPFs. Thanks for the post. Keep me posted on the suspension update as I havent seen that combo before.

The KTFS-121 and KTFR-121 are specifically made for KDSS Prados as the spring lengths are different, just as the factory springs are different in length.

That sounds like a plan Fido.

Well, the car has finally shown up and the dealer has dropped it down to ARB for some accessories. ARB have been kind enough to send me some pics as the work is carried out while Im interstate.
