  • Clint's 2012 Metal Storm ZR

Thought I would finally get to post up a build thread for my new Prado.
Originally started off looking like this

but after 2 years of looking in car yards and dreaming, in December 2012 it finally took a drive to Toyota, had a wash and shrunk into this:

Had 4kms on it when i picked it up!
Wasn't long til i started pulling it to bits to fit a TJM T13 colour coded Outback Bar.
    Came out looking like this

Have also fitted factory towbar to it and have started running the wires for brake controller and 12 volt accessory plug in the back.
Have put about 3000k's on it so far and have been pretty happy with it, so far it has managed to nearly halve the fuel consumption of the patrol I had before. Has even managed to kill a sheep

    Future plans will include
    Suspension Lift
    Driving Lights and UHF
    Dual Battery
    Tyres
    Transfer case guard
    Rear Draws
    3in Exhaust
    maybe LR fuel tank
and probably a few more things that I see on other rigs but can't do to much at the moment or my bank account is going to really hate me!!

Clint, Mate nice ride. Glad for another shorty owner is on here. I am surprised how much room is in a shorty.

Nice shorty Clint, being one that has been trolling carsales.com for the last few years dreaming about the car that I might have one day I had noticed one that looked remarkably like yours in there for a short time earlier this year, I'm glad that you got to keep it by the looks of things.

Thanks SOL, Like your rig too but it does make my wish list get longer!!!

Seems i can't hide GUV, your observation skills are very good, went through a bit of tough time earlier in the year and had a bit of a bad back and couldn't sit in it for an hour without ending up in agony, but things have changed and my back has come good so it would seem that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't really the train coming after all!!

I am at Boyne Island Qld at the moment, staying with my eldest Son & his wife, and I parked next to a white 2012 ZR yesterday at the shopping centre. I stayed in my SX while the wife went to do a bit of shopping but the owner never came back while we were there. I was hoping to have a yarn. Oh well, maybe next time. We have done a number of trips with the caravan over the last 18 months (Qld, NSW & Vic) and have only seen about 14 shorty's in all that time. Mine certainly gets a few looks wherever we go and has been the reason for a few great conversations at caravan parks and shopping centres during that time. Quite a few blokes have said "I didn't know they made a two door Prado".
              Luv my Shorty!!

Think it must be about time I update this thread, Got a few more mods done now to the shorty and finally had its christening in the bush.
Mods that have been completed now are:
Driving lights - went for Vision X LED lights, mainly for the warranty and robustness compared to HID's
UHF - went for GME with controls in the Mic, got it mounted under the seat,
                Dual Battery under the bonnet
Electric Brake controller, Mounted it inside the glovebox in the cardholder like someone else had done on here, not ideal but at least it doesn't dig into my knee and don't do that much towing anyway.
2in Old Man Emu suspension lift - couldn't put up with the ultra soft setup in the front end any longer. Looks heaps better now to I reckon.
And finally binned the P plates off the windows.

Anyway here's some pics of how it looks now.

And a few of it on a recent trip to the Vic High Country,

And one of Beauty and the Beast, The Suzuki that has been taking away my time to mod the Prado.

Also got a set of Side rails to modify and fit and a set of Drifta drawers on order.

Thanks fido, old Zooks have quite a following down here in the Otways, far better than getting mud in a good vehicle and use it in winter on farm, nearly unstoppable.

                      Time to update again,
Have finally got Siderails on and also got Raslarr Engineering to make a rear bar and twin wheel carriers, think my mods are done for a while now, (til I get bored and have another idea) just a few little things to do like remount the rear camera and maybe a rear light. Also have had Drifta make a rear draw and fridge slide but no pics at the minute, Draw top gives me enough room to sleep in with the passenger seat folded forward and an extra board to fill the gap.

                      Here's some pics of outside.

Nice job Clint. How did you find dealing with Raslarr? I keep meaning to get them to quote me on some sidesteps but never seem to get there.
