  • 05 GX - Engine Conversion

I don't have a build thread for the other stuff I have done to my prado but given the journey I'm about to undertake I thought I might as well start one to document the engine conversion Ive started.

After the outing at Mt Pleasant 4wd park I realised more so how lacking the 1kz is in the power department. Given my upbringing in high powered rotaries and Jap cars I thought I would bite the bullet and do an engine conversion. Motor of choice is the 2JZ VVti twin turbo 3.0l 6cyl out of the Toyota Supra and Aristo.

These motors make huge power and torque and will meet my power needs.

I will keep this post updated as I go but at the moment my brother (Handy he is an auto electrician) and I are planning out the rest of the stuff we need like buying fuel pumps, and wiring up the new ECU ready for install.

Have also lodged my Application to Modify Vehicle and got the engineer on board ready to certify. So it should be awesome when its done having 300kw at the wheels as opposed to at best 100 should make a difference.

This could be one of the first Prados to sport a straight 6 engine! Will be interesting to if you have any fitting issues. Good luck with it!

I dont want to discourage you but I have to ask, if you want more power why not sell the diesel and buy a Petrol Prado?

You would get more for the Diesel than an equivelant Petrol so could pocket money instead of it costing you. Pretty much anything bolted to your current ride could unbolt and go on the new one. Resale on a Prado with a foreign engine is not going to be great unless you find an enthuisiast to buy it when the time comes to move?

Anyway, post plenty of pics if you go ahead with this

                Cheers Andrew

Certainly not discouraging AJ. Your logic makes sense but as far as getting more power from a V6 compared to the 2JZ its chalk and cheese. SO many bolt on goodies for the 2JZ that will allow me to tune and modify to get what I want. I also like the challenge and I won't be selling the beast anytime soon!!

It is a tight fit but can be done without moving radiator (insert thermo fans here) or gearbox. My brother just ordered a Haltech ECU to run all things fuel and spark.

My brother and I have paused to construct a new custom bull bar for the prado. It will look similar to the Xrox but 100 times stronger. Have sorted out the adr compliance requirements and fabrication has begun. Pictures to come.

                              Yes, more updates!

Currently building a JZX81, and having just sold a JZX100 to buy my Prado I understand exactly why you'd want to do this conversion.
