Well, as promised, here's a bit about my 90 series V6 build up. I've had this old girl since brand new in 1996 and mostly serviced it myself religiously. I was looking to purchase a new 4WD to replace it and the Ford Rangers looked good, but the availability, price and attitude of the new car salesmen got my goat. So the decision was made to keep the Prado and build it up !!
Below is the list of projects so far finished;
Heavy duty West Coast Suspensions coils and shocks. Ride height raised 50mm.
Replaced timing belt and water pump.
Installed new heavy duty clutch.
Tunez aftermarket radio/GPS/Bluetooth unit. A fantastic unit at a great price.
Oricom 80 channel UHF.
Pacemaker extractors fitted with custom mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust system.
TRD supercharger and Xede interceptor ECU with 7th injector. The "piece de resistance".
URD 2.2" supercharger pulley (stock is 2.37"). Boost up around 8lb.
Aquamist HFS2 water methanol injection system (cools charge air nicely and prevents detonation/pinging).
The supercharger was installed by Max Raffaele at Kardinya and he has done a fine job. Even calling me up this morning to check to see how things are going. I recommend Max to anyone doing this kind of work. The supercharger was supplied by Bullet Cars. I went this way as opposed to buying off the net direct from the US, as Bullet supply a totally integrated unit with all bracketing suitable for a Prado, the 7th injector, and the Xede ECU with 2 maps controlled by a switch. This mod has turned this vehicle from an engine needing 3500rpm on the clock to get going to an absolute stump puller. I now have what seems like high power and torque available from way down at 1500rpm..........it just surges away from almost idle. One suspects this is the engine that should have been in the 4WD from the get go. The extractors and 2.5" system give it a nice low V8 style rumble just to top things off !!
This vehicle is now supremely drivable and I can see it lasting me another 10 years at least
