  • Azprado's New Rig - 150 GXL

So out with the old and in with the new, been considering the upgrade from the 120 series to a nice new 150 since early January this year, 2 weeks ago I took the plunge and got myself a nice shiny new car which I picked up last weekend. Came with a tank of fuel, a set of genuine rubber floor mats and a nice shiny engine bay.

So on to the semi important stuff:
    Year: 2013
    Model: GXL
    Trans: 6 speed Manual
    Engine: Diesel
Color: White (what else would you get)

Short Term Mods (some of this comes across from the 120 series)
    • Head Light Covers
    • Bonnet Protector
    • ARB Deluxe Bullbar winch compatible (color coded)
    • Safari Snorkel
    • IPF Driving Lights 800XS with HID upgrade
    • Tinting Front windows
    • GME 3420 UHF Radio
    • Aerial
    • ORS Rear Draws
    • Waeco Dual Zone Fridge/Freezer
    • Fridge Drop Slide
    • Rear Light
    • Wet Seat covers
    • LEDLad interior light upgrade
    • Dual Battery System
      • Optima D27F Yellow Top
      • Piranha 180S Dual Battery management System
      • Leighs Voltage boosting diode

Long Term Mods (as time and $ permits)
    • Under body protection
    • 2" Lift Kit
    • Roof Racks
    • Awning
    • Tyre Upgrade
    • Tow Bar
    • Tyre pressure monitoring system
    • GPS Navigation/Entertainment system

    Some potential challenges:
    • Fitting the D27F battery from what I have read may need a swap of the primary/auxilary batteries due to space issues with the aircon pipe on drivers side
    • ORS draws need to be retrofit as they are coming from a 120 series the guys at ORS have confirmed this shouldn't be a problem but will wait and see

Some photos of my new Shiny

Thanks guys, the blank canvas is pretty exciting.

I finished putting on the light covers today and was planning on putting the bonnet shield on also but found out the brackets that came with it seem to have a bit of a problem.

        Head Light covers on:

Slight issue with the brackets for the bonnet shield:

Guess a visit to Mr Toyota is required this week to replace the brackets

Those brackets are 2 different sizes, I can see how this would be a problem. Was the packaging sealed?

Nice Prado, white would be my next choice after silver.

Yep package was sealed and direct from Toyota, having a second look there actually the same size but looks like a mistake in manufacture as the threadsert seems to be switched around, the photo below makes more sense. As for white vs silver pretty much came down to a coin flip on those two but white was available onshore and for a good price so it won.

Congrats on the new addition and a great looking shopping list to boot.

I was puzzled too when I open the packet for the bonnet protector, however going against male tradition, I looked at the destructions and then realised that these 2 brackets go under the chrome bonnet trim. Having the thread on the wrong end would of had me stumped for hours lol.

Good luck and look forward to following your build up

I will admit I'm not normally one for reading instructions and really only worked out there was a problem when I had to stand there for a minute or two trying to work out why the hell one bracket was sticking up in the air more than the other :S

Love it. I have the exact same car. I'm looking at stealing the following mods off you:
                  ORS Drawers
                  Drop Slide
Rear light (are you mounting this on the roof racks?)

Hopefully your not LITERALLY planning on stealing them

As for the rear light, I had this mounted on a Kaymar Wheel Spacer on the 120 series, so depending on $ may go down that path initially otherwise yep will be on the roof racks.

                      This thing is seriously small

A very small addition to the rig this afternoon but something that definitely solved a concern for me. Walked into Officeworks today and came across this little guy.

$8 later and I had a 8GB USB stick for my car that is so small I will never have to worry about knocking it or snapping it off from the worlds worst location for a USB input that Toyota could of POSSIBLY chosen.

Interior Face Lift: No more silver panels

Well what can I say was a b!$%h of a six months which resulted in very little getting done on the rig and no updates on the small bits that did get completed. So time to get things rolling again.

Most recent change was an uplift of the interior, after owning a 120 series for around 3 years and moving to the 150 with the same silver paneling I wasn't really in the mood for looking at the same boring panels for a few more years, so onto ebay I went and picked up some 3M Scotchprint Carbon Fibre Vinyl. Cost was about $60+ postage, and after three or four hours of pulling panels, cutting vinyl and refitting no more silver panels in site.

Hopefully the next update wont be quite soooo long in coming.

Really like the look of the carbon fibre, been thinking about doing the same on my girl, my silver parts are starting to get a bit scratched, easy way to make it look good

                            Hi Ghost,

Thats exactly why I did it, the silver panels in the 120 were looking more than a little worse for ware when I got it and the front panel near the drivers footwell had been almost worn away so with the 150 I thought it was time for a change.

Wasn't overly difficult to do a few small gotchas but overall a fairly simple if slightly laborious process.
