  • Well The LED Bar is now installed and to say that I'm impressed is an understatement! Very pleased that I went for the 40" bar instead of the 30. Although it would have been easier to fit up to the platform as I had to make up some stronger mounting points for the bar as where the brackets for the LED Bar fitted to the platform it was on a plastic capping. So I fashioned a brace out of some 3mm plate and pop riveted it to the underside of the platform and also used a slightly heavier gauge and longer screws to replace the existing ones. I used 6mm nutserts as arrowed for fitting up the Bar and used some tamper proof Bolts to ensure the grubs cant flog it.

I ran my cabling up the side of the windscreen tucking it into the moulding and securing with dabs of black silicone as originally planned, following the windscreen washer jets hose line route to find its way into the engine bay right next to my fuse box. At the other end I followed the channel along to the front roof rail mount and took the cable inside the housing and feed it into the North/South channel out of site where it pops out the back and then loops back to a waterproof quick connect plug for ease of removal. (photo to come.)

I'll replace these pics with some daylight pics when I get the chance...Bar sits approx 30mm back from the front of the platform as seen in the previous post.

Love the look and the subtlety of the single row light bar.

    Flame ON!!!

    • So I couldnt "not" take it for a test run on a secluded section of road not too far from home and OMFG! Photos dont truly tell the story (well my iPhone doesnt anyway)

      Low Beam...

      High Beam...

      High Beam + 55w HID's

      Burger with the LOT!

Here's another shot of High Beam + HID's

And you can see just how much more light the HID/LED Bar Combo provides...

I do get some reflection off the Sahara Bar Hoop, however it certainly is bearable. I will most likely however either paint with Matt Black the back side of the bar. If not, a length of duct tape for my night runs would suffice. The Bar is set back far enough to not shine on the dash so there's no worries there. Cant wait to put it to the real test this weekend!!!

      • Thanks mate! That is perfect. I wanted to put an LED bar uptop like i had on the hilux.. Was toying with putting it on the roof racks but it will sit too far back and the racks aren't much chop for the RTT.. This is perfect.. Off to find a platform..

        • Looks good Craig, surprised to see the light bar do so much better over the HID's. Might have to add this to the Christmas list.

          • Yeh my HID's are presently set up for 1 x spot 1 x spread. I will change it to 2 x spots now to see if I can get more throw with 2 spots but in the shots below with the LED bar on you can see how the trees at the end of the road approx 400m away are lit up (picture doesnt show it but they are "really lit up") compared to the HID's only pic (probably need to adjust the light beam also as they're pointing a little low...)

            HID's only

            Plus LED Bar

                        • Hello Craigm, Just read through your build and its scary how similar our vehicles are. 2004 v6 Grande, Kings/Bilsteins (which had the same issue with the bushes!) MT ATZ, Rock Sliders, Just ordered some Drifta Drawers too!.(but the vertical setup as i am quite short and wouldnt be able to reach the fridge on the slide)

Did you ever find a solution to the cargo "net" as opposed to the cargo barrier? I am also looking for something that is easily removable without having to drill too many holes...

                            • Still looking at options speed_racer (which you have just reminded me to follow up on thanks ) Drifta can supply the Autosafe barriers, which seem to be the easiest of the barriers to remove. Not sure how much space I would loose behind the seats with this barrier. I do have the ARB 60l fridge which has a fairly large footprint, so I need to check that out prior to committing. The 2nd option is a Milford Cargo Net, which apparently is being discontinued. The only thing with these are that they are not side curtain compatible which is what the Grande has. I may ignore this fact depending on what the effects would be should a side impact airbag deploy with one of these barriers be installed. Most likely the Autosafe option would be the go however as the net would not restrain a fridge coming through the front in a (heaven forbid and touch wood) heavy impact should it break free from its mounts

Im looking for something like this actually - I know its not going to protect as well as a proper barrier which is bolted in
