    Looks excellent Craig.

Forgive my ignorance, but does it read the pressure wirelessly from something you screw on the valve or do you have to have a sensor installed inside the tyre?

    Cheers,

    Jeff

    Looking good there Craig.

As a guide (cause I'm no expert), the alarms could be set at:
On bitumen: typical normal pressure - 40psi, low alarm - 3/4 of normal pressure (30psi), high alarm - couple of psi below max inflation pressure specified on tyre sidewall (48psi)
On dirt: typ. norm. pressure - 28psi, low alarm - 3/4 of normal pressure (21psi), high alarm - 4psi above norm. pressure (32psi)
On sand: typ. norm. pressure - 18psi, low alarm - 4psi below normal pressure (14psi), high alarm - 4 psi above norm. pressure. (22psi)

The 4psi above normal pressure comes from the 4psi rule where if the tyre starts to go above 4psi, then the tyre is getting heated up and you are either going too fast for the pressure or too low pressure for your speed.

The 4psi below normal pressure is to help detect leaks early when running on sand

The 3/4 of normal pressure for bitumen and dirt is because you don't want the alarm going off unnecessarily from ambient temp fluctuations because you can set the pressure on a hot day but if the next day is really cold, your tyre pressures will drop. But I find that I am looking at the TPMS from time to time during the day so you can get a guide of when you are really having a slow leak vs fluctuations as a result of ambient temps.

    Looks the goods craig.

I've always been curious about how much tyre temps vary during a long drive.

Fitted up the Tyredog TPMS that I picked up off Ebay tonight. The unit that I picked up is the color screen jobbie and although it will run on the 2AAA batteries, it really needs permanent power. The unit comes with a Cig lighter adapter plug but I didnt want to use the existing plugs so I picked up a double plug from Super Cheap to install under the dash. Only cost $10 and is a reasonably solid unit with nice heavy duty (2,5mm2) wiring tail. I used some split tubing and passed it thought the firewall on the Drivers side and terminated into my Accessories Fuse Box off my Aux battery. I tucked it neatly beside the kick panel just to the right of the accelerator pedal for easy access.

I decided to put the TPMS unit against the Pillar where I could tuck the power lead in out of the way.. I ran the cable down the side in behind the light grey rubber trim right out of sight.

    Contd...

Made the most out of our 7 day beach access permit and returned to Bribie Is. yesterday. With a 3pm low tide meant we had the whole afternoon on the beach. We aired down @ 11:30am and were heading up to our Fav spot 10 minutes later and got off the beach at 5:45. It was a very quiet and relaxing day with very little traffic on the beach.

I am going to have to drive up there one of these days. So far just kayaking and hiking. Got to be easier in the Prado! Not to mention the access to cold drinkies.

We drove up to the turn around point past the large WW2 fortifications (approx 3k's past the Inland track turn off. We stayed till around 3:30 and then came back down via the inland track which the soft areas were pretty mash up from the traffic and the fact that it hasnt rained up there for a while. It was a magic day up on Bribie with just a slight breeze to keep it nice. A great way to spend Fathers day!
