The GME TX3800 series is a commercial based UHF - I need it for the Car Club, as they have channels above a non-commercial UHF.

There are some decent deals on eBay. Later I will add a remote head and speaker, and "hide" the main unit.

Noticed it was commercial, when I checked it on the GME site, and was wondering why you had gone this route. Hadn't thought about yuor need for your car club.

That was the part that got my interest big time, but reckon I'll have to go for a normal 5 watter

It does have the capacity to go into "LO TX" mode, which is 5 Watts - someday when I get out with a group, that it where it will be set to.

Yeah - sounds like a plan! Though this camper needs a lift kit first!

                  UHF - Temp Installation

Got my GME TX3800 installed today - after a mate programmed it for the Car Club Channels - standard 80 Channels, plus the extra Club channels that are above the normal 80.

Until I can acquire a remote head - then I'll hard mount it under the dash.

Funny though that the mic seems to clip into the ashtray sides!

Shh...Don't tell SWMBO - I saw my mate at TJM....

Got a quote on 45mm (2") lift - only because the standard suspension is, dare I say - shot after 179k KM.

But did purchase Sandgrabba front mats today! Carpet driver's mat I think had a fair portion of the Florentine embedded into it!

Good luck with the lift, you won't know yourself.

How do you fine the range of the 25w UHF?

Hard to say - had it's first work out this weekend, with the Car Club's rally. On Friday there were no repeaters, and a mate that has a 55 Watter - we could communicate OK on 6db aerials - say about 10 KM's apart, in forrest and mountains - if we stopped. The 5 Watt Club radios didn't do anything...But that was on the Club's Simplex channel.

When the repeaters were up, no drama's at all - in fact I could hear transmissions that weren't going through to race HQ.

There's a lot of variables that come into play - my 6db whip is only a screw on to the base, and it is only 90CM tall. The 3db whip that I leave on most of the time is only 12CM tall.

We tend to play in the forrest and hills so line of sight communications are always a bit "iffy".

Bet your pleased to have them in.
WY wife questioned why I wanted to do this change, until after they were installed - then she questioned why I hadn't done it sooner.

Paired together, they are an awesome combination. A lot safer driving, and less smearing of bug guts, etc too. Use less water as well.

Got my GME Remote kit today - just did the "swap" of the remote. For the TX3800, five screws, gently remove control panel from main unit. Swap plugs around.

I'll post some picks when I get it re-mounted tomorrow.
