  • 2013 Prado

    Hi all,
This is my first time on this site, as this is the first time I have bought a Prado,
my previous (well other at the moment until my wife gets her way) is a 2003 Patrol, which I love but I need something a bit more classy and better for the young family.
I am trying to upload the photos but my computer is taking forever. but its Graphite and a GXL you all know what they look like.

So I suppose I need to add some things to it. I dont think I need anymore fuel economy and I havent been real 4wding in it yet but I doubt I will chip it. I grabbed the alloy front bar just to have as I didnt like the factory steel. down the track I will give ARB a stupid amount of money for a bar and scrub bars
    But to start I think
    Snorkel (booked in next week)
Spotlights LED or HID not sure yet
I will take the side steps off and try to make them into proper sliders that still look factory. I will need them I am sure.
dual battery system (pretty expensive about $1300 without the battery) they tell me you need a special AC/DC solenoid thingy
I used to have drawers but I dont want to drill into the real floor (well seats) perhaps someone can show me a modular system I can use
A UHF but one that can be fitted without drilling into anywhere really obvious.
    2 inch lift
now I had muddies on my Patrol and loved them, but its W.A and it rains for 3 minutes every year so I think I can slum it on ATZ's
Now what the F.. is up with the stupid lack of GPS in the GXL, I wanted one but didnt want to pay 200 series prices for a VX Prado is there a product out there thats good quality that looks factory that can be installed in the same spot as the original stereo head unit? Toyota are talking about some "Toyota link" program that links with your phone, any news on that?

anyway thats enough to start with.
I hope someone reads this but I will take my questions out to the greater forum so more people see them.
    Cheers

Congrats on the new toy mate, with that gps. I run the hema hn5i window mount unit, but have been looking at their inbuilt unit, looks good, it's about $1500 tho but then you have the ability to use reversing cameras if you like. I thought the rear drawers from companies like outback etc use existing mounting points, I know they do for the 120 prado. Feel free anyone to correct me, depending on location for you UHF, mine is mounted under my passenger seat, still plenty loud enough and have the added advantage go being removable without leaving holes, plus it's hidden.

    Cheers

Welcome aboard yachty, plenty of options out there to accessorise! Just depends what you want to do. Have a read through the 150 build threads, there's heaps of great ideas and loads of photos so you can see what different members have fitted. A few options for the gps, I ended up buying a navman easy to upgrade and also keeps the factory stereo with Bluetooth and steering wheel controls. Each to there own, though.

        Hi guys,
Cheers for the advice. I have delved too deep into the rear draws. I have a VMS unit which has been fine, I think I will check around. Thats a great point about the steering wheel controls.
        Cheers

              Hi Golly,
I thought I replied to this thread. well anyhoo. Umm the plans for the Patrol are limited, I am getting the fuel pump sorted and injector service done as its hunting a bit at 110kms per hour. then it goes on the market. I have loved that car and the Prado will not even come close to matching it offroad (not all Prados, just saying mine will not -gee that was close) The Prado will get a lift tyres and the usual touring stuff but the days of rock crawling are over. Someone else can take it, its sure good at it.

Nice looking prado yachty and the patrols not half bad either, although as I live up north I would heartily disagree with you over 3 minutes worth of rain a year.

                cheers,

hey Chappy, I see you are in Tom Price. I am pretty jealous, Tom Price is my favourite Pilbara town. I work at Area C. Near Yandi. I totally agree with the need for muddies up here. especially going by whats happened the past few weeks. The Prado will be for touring and any real mud work may be on each side of the wet but in all honesty I didnt make it past Port Hedland in my Patrol in 5 years, and thats been mostly without kids. Now I have 1 and 1 on the way I doubt I will be heading North anytime soon. But if I do it will be in the dry and AT's will be fine. but just in case before I go a winch bar and winch will be fitted.
                  Cheers,

G'day yachty, I'm hoping to upgrade my tyres this year as the missus happened to mention that she wouldn't mind a bit more of a look around when we were on our way back from a tip run (debris cleanup) and there are a few places close to or within a few hours drive of tom price for a weekend getaway and as the missus is a casual employee and me being a shift worker it all fit s nicely.
Mind it has helped that I've explained to the missus that I want to set the prado up for touring and not hardcore 4wding.

                    cheers,
                    chappy.
