Time for an update as its been a while, due to hurting myself recently.
I must send out a big thank you to Harry as he helped me while i was on light duties after some surgery. Thanks mate.

Anyway I had a custom Department of the Interior console and some electrics waiting around to be installed for a while now . So pulled out parts of the dash and ran all the cabling through and around which was a time consuming part. I like these consoles for a couple of reasons, the roof lining is perfect match and they allow you to re-fit your original lights and sun glass holder etc.. The only thing i don’t like is the sun glass holder is siliconed in. Harry being a perfectionist would not let me do that and kindly made up a new steel bracket that fits perfect;y and allows me to remove it in the future if I ever need to.
Wired up the Icom Pro 400 and added in 2 cigarette outlets in the rear of the console to charge items up there out of the way.
Love the Icoms, not the easiest to use but just a fantastic unit and great build quality,

All finished, plenty of storage, power and everything fits in well.

I also relocated my Scangauge up to the side of the console out of the way with a custom mount

As i now had the power circuits done, i installed my Bury System 9 phone cradle. When my old phone dies i can just swap the cradle to a new model but the rest stays in place. We bent up a couple of test brackets up and came up with a good design that slots in between the trim panels and I ran the wires behind the speedo and it looks neat and clean.
Importantly there is no vibration in the unit.

So with the new radio and phone cradle in, I wanted to to get good reception, so that meant running low-loss coax and mounting the aerials up on the roof. Now i didn’t want the aerials up all the time, so needed a fold down solution. i made up some new brackets to attach to the ARB roof rack and then mounted a fold down mount on both of them. On these I put ZCG HD UHF and phone aerials, which i have always had good results with and are Australian made. Now I can leave them down out of the way but in a couple of seconds lock them up or even partially up.

I have left my secondary UHF in as I leave that on scan while the other unit is normally on the dedicated trip channel. I find that is the best of both worlds as you also hear what is going on outside your group. Very happy with the new setup

Speaking of power, I put in a new Auxilliary fuse box and relays for all the additional stuff running off the Aux battery.

Re routed the tyredog tyre monitor over to the right side out of the way

I put in a Narva USB/ Cigarette flush mount panel in the back of the centre console storage box . This is great for the kids to charge iPads or other devices to shut them up, oh i mean keep them happy :-)

Updated the fused wiring to the redarc unit and installed a new momentary switch I got made up so it all looks factory.
Then installed one of the Gen 2 Projecta Battery monitors. I like these as they have very little current draw, turn off automatically, will dim when the headlight circuit is activated and you can set alarms for low and high voltage.

My previous interior LED lights slowly had dimmed over about 4 years , so i replaced these with new 5050 units . Cost me about $12 all up shipped form China. Super bright.

I use Hema maps and Motion-X on an iPad normally for mapping. But on a couple of hot days i found my iPad shutdown saying over temperature. I worked out it is the sun through the windscreen slowly heating it up on a hot Queensland summer day
So Matt kindly donated some spare air-cell type insulation, which i cut up and affixed to the back of the ram mount and bazinga! , no more overheating iPad . Happy days

Next was to replace the Mickey Thompson ATZ tyres.
Now mine started to chip and flake, even though i was getting good mileage out of them. I always take care of my pressures but several others have had similar results with them. I spoke to Mickey Thompson and there care factor was a bit more than Zero …… So i voted with my feet ,

As this is not our daily driver and have the cape trip coming up, i swapped over to Mud Terrains as i got a good price on BF Goodrich Muddies
So far very happy with them, good grip and not that noisy at all.

This is what it looks like now and ready for our next trip to cape york shortly.

I think you will find the KM2s a very good tyre and more than a mud queen. Great work and no doubt it will eat up the Cape.

                Robert.....

                Looks fantastic mate..... very impressive

A mate of mine has the BFG's M/T's on his 80's and I gotta say, I reckon they are a great tyre and would love to get them next time around, but having the Federal M/T's on currently & the road noise that comes from them, I'm thinking more of a reasonably aggressive A/T with the side-bitters on them as ours is the missus' daily driver.....

The ICOM, are u looking at boosting the power output by any chance ??
                cheers..... Rob (macca)

                  Hi Rob,
The KM2's are much quieter than expected but we will see when they wear a bit though
Look forward to see how they go up the cape.

The Icom can push out 25watts on TX but I have not changed the power settings.
                  Cheers
                  Robert
