  • Re: My truck buildup - Chippy (*** Lots of pics ***)

I think I'm just about ready for the GTG.

Added an axe and shovel holder ...

Put in some headrest DVD units for the kids ....

Concealed all the wiring in the back of the console ...

.... and wired them straight to the battery ... with their own power switch ...
(on the last trip the kids kept complaining if I turned the engine off and there was 10 mins left of the movie :? )

Put a drinks fridge in the back ...

Replaced the buggered rear tank bash plate ..... (picked the new one up really cheap at a gas conversion place)

Went shopping for a replacement winch motor .... and wound up buying a whole winch.
Its a Chinese 9500 lb unit from Malz for $560

... and finally managed to put the radiator plate back in ...

I reckon that will do for a weekend   8)

    Cheers
    Chippy

        Hey Golly

Got the screens from JB Hi Fi.

I just kept haggling until he offered up $620 with the RCA cables thrown in.
I was actually shopping for a pair of those independant strap on units ... but those who had them were asking around $400 for them.

Only time will tell with the winch.
I've given it a once over and a bit of waterproofing.

It did teach me a bit of a lesson though ...... after a water crossing (deep enough to submerge the winch) its probably a good idea to give it a run and dry it out ... rather than leaving it full of water and letting it rust. ops: ops:

        Cheers

Thats no good about the winch Chippy. Awesome work with the 1/2 height barrier and dvd screens. Very professional install and the invidual power switches is real neat

            Looks Great Chippy.
Like the idea of mounting the pump down low out of the way.
Where did you get the shovel bracket for the spare?

Finally got around to sourcing some new tyres for the toy.

I had been looking at something with a bit more of a muddy tread pattern while still being able to offer some on road behaviour.

Nothing against the BFG's which performed faultlessly for 75,000 km .... I was just after a change

So the toy now wears a set of these ...... Goodyear Wrangler MTR Kevlar

                      Yep - 265/70/17

I get more noise from the roofrack than I do from the tyres.

I s'pose if I really had to listen, and separate out the noises, these tyres might be a tad noisier than the BFG's.

                        Hi Chippy
Good to see ya on the forum mate, look for your name in the new post thread for the latest additions Lol.
Anyway those Wranglers look nice and chunky, they should keep the forward motion happening.
Are they directional? or could one run them with the white printing inside.
                        Cheers Troy

How much did they slug you for the DVD head rest units? Do they play same movie on both and do they have an auxillary input if you have one of them Dig Options units and pumping movie to the rear?

Goodyear claims they are asymetrical - the direction of rotation isn't important, the AT style line of tread being on the inside of the tyre is.

So you couldn't run them with the white lettering on the inside.

(That's my understanding of it anyway ... happy to be corrected  )

They were around $700 from JB HiFi.

The reason I liked these ones was because they are both DVD players ... the kids can have a different movie on each one .....
.... or either one can be the slave and share the movie being played on the other unit.
