Nice job on the compartment storage Spike.
How do you find the Fyrlyt's?? Like always, the advertising makes them sound as though they are 'the ducks guts'. Be interesting to hear a real world appraisal.
04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

Thanks Gramps. Yes I've been very happy with the Fyrlyts so far. They're very easy to adjust, they seem robust enough and haven't shifted since I set them. The light output is great. To be fair, my last pair of spotties was conceived, designed and made during the time of the Bubonic Plague I suspect, so anything would have been an improvement! I don't have any pics to show you I'm afraid (I never seem to have a camera at night, and haven't been out on a deliberate night time outing to play with them), but on the several country drives I've done they've been excellent.

      Cheers
      Spike

I decided to change the position of the UHF unit. Originally I thought that as the unit was so small, I could mount it on the RHS of the centre console by the driver's leg (see previous post). But this turned out to be a bad choice - quite uncomfortable on longer journeys. So I removed the ash tray drawer, drilled few extra holes in the mounting bracket for the head unit, and attached it to the inside face plate of the ash tray compartment. They are invisible if ever I reinstate the ash tray (I'm a non-smoker) so now obvious permanent holes. Then just ran the cables through behind the dash, and Robert's your mother's brother . Much happier now!

Looks great Spike. I have mounted my UHF (Same model) in a similar spot, but have removed the ashtray altogether and put the UHF in its spot. Its very neat and fits perfectly.

Thanks Killswitch. My ash tray is out altogether as well, but I had to use the mounting bracket to fix it to the lip of the ashtray cavity. How did you fix the unit in the space?

Today's addition was a Rhinorack Pioneer Platform. Rather than using the existing roof rails as attachment points (which would have needed the SX Platform attachments) I decided on removing the roof rails altogether and fixing the platform directly into the roof channels, using the RLCP03 legs. This means a much lower profile.

I'm very happy with the result, and it's very solid. Probably took around 4 hours all up (removing the rail covers to expose the bolts probably took me an hour!) but everything fitted together well and the parts seem of a very high quality. It'll get a good test out on our Flinders Ranges trip in July

For those interested in car park limitations, I have measured the new height with this configuration (bearing in mind a 2" Old Man Emu lift and 265/70/17 tyres). The total ground to top of rack height is 1990mm, so well under most of the 2.1m carparks I frequent. Happy days!

I forgot to give a hat-tip to AMTS for the spare wheel spacer I bought before fitting these new tyres. A very nice bit of gear and fitted perfectly with the 265/70/17 BFG spare:

The new drawers and cargo barrier arrived from Drifta last week, so I had fun installing them over the weekend. I'm very happy with the outcome and the service from the team at Drifta was great.

In preparation for our Cameron Corner - Flinders Ranges trip in a few weeks, I've splashed out and bought a set of Clearview mirrors. Very easy to install and certainly give a better view of the road behind the camper trailer. Here's a couple of pics of them in normal position and extended position:

I've also added a SupaPeg RV Standeasy awning, which we saw at the recent camping show in Sydney. We umm-ed and arr-ed over the Rapid Wing, but in the end becuase of the trailer opted for the StandEasy. It's fantastic, easy to set up and even easier to pack away. The support poles fold into the front of the awning and are permanently attached, so no need for separate storage for the poles.

Peter from SupaPeg made these extra long support brackets which cover two of the Pioneer platform members to put less flex on the outer frame. I'm looking forward to that bit of extra shade out west...

                        Cheers
