  • Dominator's KDJ150 GXL

I have always been a Patrol man, but today was the day I betrayed my kind and bought a Toyota. I previously owned a 4.2 Turbo Diesel GQ with all the fruit (Lift, locker, tyres, winch, all the bar work etc.)

But as they say, out with the old, in with the new. It was a close battle between the late model Patrol and Prados. However with a bad back the comfort of the Prado won out.

It's an '09 KDJ150 GXL Auto. It already has a colour coded ARB bullbar, Warn XD9000, a pair of IPF spotties and a GME UHF.

There is a big todo list to get the Prado to where I want it. On the immediate list are:

Rock Sliders, looking at the powerful4x4 sliders.

    Rear bar/wheel carrier, possibly Kaymar.

2in suspension lift (would love 3in but want to keep it all legal) thinking of going Armada remote res shocks, unsure on springs, probably Dobinson, Superior upper front control arms and rear lower control arms. Diff drop kit etc.

The biggest tyres I can squeeze on. I know 275/65's are about the limit on standard rims but I am hoping the aftermarket control arms and possibly some aftermarket rims can help me get some bigger tyres on it.

    Dual battery system

Roof basket (thinking powerful4x4 again), have got an awning that I will fit to it.

    Snorkel

Bash plates, engine/gearbox/transfer case. Probably just get some off the shelf ones. Will also have a go at making some alloy bash plates for the fuel tanks.

3in exhaust, undecided on steel or stainless.

Remove the steel cable from the winch and fit rope and also hook up some incab controls.

Boost and EGT gauges and a Scan Tool.

    LED Light bar.

Remove the third row seats and make some drawers and a fridge slide and incorporate a water tank.

Water pump and heat exchanger for the shower.

Lots of little things like power to the rear for the fridge and amp, secondary fuel filter, provent catch can, seat covers, table on the rear door, led strip lights and on and on...

Any advice anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I am new to Prados but not to 4wds. I am trying to do as much reading as I can to save mistakes and having to do things twice.

Welcome to the Prado family Dominator!

Looks like you have a clean base to start with, how many kms has the old girl clocked up so far?

Great number of goodies to get on there, good luck with the build and cant wait to see the pics ;-p

Welcome to the Prado club Dominator! You'll find a bit of difference in ride comfort coming from the GQ (I used to own one with a Ford badge on it). There's plenty of inspiration in the build threads here.

Have a look at the Bushskinz bash plates, They're 4mm thick :- http://bushskinz4x4.com.au/bushskinz...ies-suspension

Ironman do bash plates and fuel tank guards but they are only around 3mm thick :- http://www.ironman4x4.com/underbody-protection/

Black Duck canvas seat covers for the second row to keep the kids from destroying them. Also got a full set of 3D floor mats. Very impressed with the finish.

Sliders and Bash Plates arrived today. Went with the Rock Armor gear from Powerful 4x4 as they have some good deals on at the moment.

Sliders on, pretty happy with them. Time will tell if they stand up to the punishment.

Bash plates look good, will hopefully have a crack at fitting them this weekend.
