Hi PPers, been floating around a while now and figured I should start a build thread before I get too far into it.
Recently bought a 2008 GX 6speed D4d. Had 143000km on the clock and is nice and tidy.
As i bought it...
Proper Photo shoot when I got it home...
Next I added the Spotlights, UHF and Phone Aerials off my previous 4x4 (1984 12HT Powered HJ60 - not regretting the upgrade)
:cry::cry:
I ordered a 4x4Superstore Rooftop Tent Rack and fitted it up the night that it turned up (Already have the rooftopper in the shed awaiting next big trip)
First Camping Trip in the Prado - just a sneaky Monday night overnighter to a secret spot on the Blackwood River, just running the double swag for now
Easter Trip - bought a full set of Black Widow drawers / barrier / shelf / divider second hand and bolted them in after I got home from work on Good Friday and then packed all the camping gear ready to set off Saturday morning to another secret spot on the Blackwood, the difference in packing with the draws is huge, don't know how I lived without them. Only got one photo as we did a afternoon drive to White Point, forgot to take the camera and couldn't be bothered with the phone. Too windy and rough to bother chucking a line in for a salmon.
It was always high on the agenda to swap out the suspension for something higher and a little more robust than the standard gear, loading it up for camping seriously emphasized this issue. So now she sits upon Ironman constant load springs with Foam Cell Pros dampening the ride. I have only done 60 odd km and must say I'm very impressed with the upgrade, and I pulled up at the lights behind a tiny little standard 120 prado on the way home from the workshop.
A couple of minor things off the list...
-modded the back door hinge so that it lines up and closes properly
-upgraded the interior, reverse and park lights to LEDs
-neoprene front seat covers
-dash mat, deep floor mats
So now the list of upcoming mods stands at.... (in no particular order)
Snorkel (currently on the spare bed)
Winch (currently in the shed - need to change out the steel cable for some dyneema)
Proper tyres - 245/70/17 are just lame (thinking 265/70 as i have no flares, and possibly BFG KM2s, but maybe some sort of agressive AT)
Install the UHF and HF Radio gear
Dual Batteries
Stereo Upgrade (thinking single DIN with the ICOM Pro DIN mounted underneath)
Spare wheel spacer
Worklights to rear
Rear door table (have the ply just need to find the time)
Diff Breather Lift
Eventually working towards...
Hi Flow Cat & Muffler
Underbody Protection
Sliders
E Lockers
Chip
More Light
There could, and no doubt will, be more added to the list but thats about the lot for now.
I know you all like photos so I'll try to take some along the way, not just pics of the prado parked around the place.
Cheers for reading,
Tony
Nearly forgot... flexed up the old suspension before I changed it with 2 ramps in the garage, sic.
