I recently bought a 2008 GXL KDJ120R, thought i'd post here to document all the things i have done, and want to do! Hopefully I will remember to keep it up to date, and I can look back at it. Bought the car as a bit of a bigger option to the family car, with the hope of doing some (on and off) road trips, and some camping.
About the car: It's high kms to start (240k), but seems to be in quite good condition overall. A few mechanical things will need attention straight away. It's got some factory options (bull bar, tow bar, roof racks, the sat nav double din screen), and a few after market mods, but nothing too substantial. It's done a bit of towing, and as such, a previous owner put in a heavy duty clutch, heavy duty rear suspension, and an electronic brake controller. It's got a TV for the rear seats (not working), a reversing camera (not working) and a few other things.
Will post some pics soon!
Immediate plans include mostly maintenance, and will include replacing the following:
- Injectors --> do compression test, valve clearance test, etc, and depending on the condition of everything, I may replace the rail and pump as well. Will also do all the major service stuff that makes sense to do whilst the engine is apart
- Steering rack ends, both of which have some play. Will go genuine.
- Front left axle, as a cv boot has been torn
- Rear upper control arm bushings
- Tyres all round (Maybe BFG KO2's but probably something a little cheaper)
- Bull bar indicator lenses (that have not aged well)
- New reversing camera
As part of that, also going to add:
- Oil catch can
- 6mm EGR plate (maybe)
Not so distant future plans:
- 2" lift
- drawers in the boot
- A bunch of mud and gravel from plenty of trips!
