I took delivery of my second prado on firday. It was sad to see the old petrol 120 drive out the driveway, but i was stoked knowing the D4D was going to replace its postion in front of my house.
Today we cleaned!!!!!! I specifacly asked the dealer, not to touch the car. Unfortunatly they did wash it,
which caused a lil more work, but wasn't as bad as most new cars ya see.
Its my beleif that all the after market products the car dealers try to sell is crap. The workers or so called "technicians" do not apply the products with care and caution, i know this from experience as I work in dealerships almost everyday. To start my build up, was to get this car in pristine condition, corcourse level if you like.
1st step was to wash and clay block the exterior, clay blocking removes all surface contaminents, like fallout, ect. and chaimoed dried. Diven into the shed, it was the interior that got the next round of treatments. Swissvax protecton was used on all vinyl and plastic surfaces. This product is awesome to say the least, shines and protects like no other on the market.
Next step was the carpets and seats, I used 3m scotchguard on them. Car yards charge around $400-$500 to do this. it cost me $23 to buy to aerosol cans fron woolworths, which was ample to do two coats around the vechile. be sure if your doing this to remove it from any vinyl areas straight away. With the interior shining, it was on to the exterior.
I love the range of cleaners and waxes made by swissvax, simply the best wax. Its expensive at around $200-$300 a tub, but the level of shine and protection acheievd is second to none. And definatly a shitload better than that crap paint protection the "ming" mole will try and sell you at $500-$600. The first step is to cleanse the paint, this is done by applying cleaner fluid. Its an all natural oil based product that deep cleans the paint. It is a little difficult to use, and takes around 4 hrs to do a prado, but its an all important step in the final result, cleaned off with micro fibre cloths, the car is now ready for wax.
Applying wax is no rocket science. apply in circular motions, allow to dry, the remove again with micro fibre cloths. I used 2, 1 take take the bulk of wax off, and another to for those finishing touches. The shine on this car needs to be seen!
Now all the the exterior plastics and rubber needed to be treated, for all the door rubbers and window rubbers, i used a product called gumi, this lil gem of a product keeps the rubber soft and subtle. All the exterior black plastics received treat from Einszett's Tiefenpfleger, starnge name! but again the best protection on the market.
Wheel's where treated with zymol wheel cleaner and wax. Its a spary on product that leaves a coating of wax behind when buffed off. Tyres were treated with Swissvax pneu. Its a tyre shine that doesnt sling and allow dirts to stick to it.It took the wife and all day to do this, standing back with a cold beer looking at the result made it all worth while.
I also fitted genuine toyota headlight and bonnet protectors, and the rubber sand grabber style mats, silly me forgot the weathersheilds for the windows, I will get these this week. Toyota fitted a genuine tow pack, and also had the front windows tinted. At this stage the prado is a classic Torack tractor. I need a 4wd to tow my big boat though.
I have plans of fitting a bullbar and all sorts of goodies in the near future. When my business comitments die down (hopefully soon, 3 yrs!!!! i hope  ) This vechile will be set up for touring, and all the associated goodies put on.
Its a work in progress, and one I'm enjoying.
