    • Nice flex, those rear coils look very long and progressive rate too. Are they a custom item? What shocks are they, do they come in custom lengths? Can't wait to see your rig with 33s.

      • the coils are not really as progressive as they look. the closer windings are a sort of "stacker" type arrangement, as that's what builds the height up to 4". from there down, its a 300Lb coil which allows me to run long shocks without it coming loose. my OME 300Lb coils would actually fall out in this set up.

        • sik 120 flex

i also have a feeling that my 33" procomps are not going to fit in the rear wheel arch on full compression. there's less than an inch of clearance at the top of the tyre and at the rear of the tyre.

the front should clear the 33"s with no problems.

i have some procomp rear shocks to fit in, as the OME ones actually bind on the side of the chassis.

          • What about longer rear bumpstops to give you more clearance for your tyres? With shocks as long as yours, it looks like you may already have bumpstop spacers and/or Hilux bumpstops, but the bumpstops in a Prado Grande are considerably longer again and could give you the clearance you need as well as ensuring your rear shocks don't bottom out:

            • Finally fitted up a winch.

its a VRS 12500LB through Opposite Lock in Darwin.

I got the one with synthetic rope.

works a treat, no problems skull dragging the 120 through the slop.

i just need some time to sort out the suspension and fit all the new bits. i will be trying out the new mono tube front struts and i have a pair of procomp rear shocks up my sleeve to fit as well. come to think of it, i won't have any of the original OME left when i'm done.

wow. cheers mate, especially when a comment like that comes from a PP god.

i just need some spare time, what ever that is, to fit up the goodies which are piling up.

PP God? struth! If there was an once of truth to that I would crate an 11th commandment:

"Thou ( 8608 aka you-eth ) shall come south and flexith my chariot so thatith it does looketh as kick asseth as thous!

i had a chance to give the front end a good clean with the bar off during the winch install

and i never see pics like this in other PP'ers build threads. is everyone else really that organised and neat?
it got worse as the day progressed.

                              • more goodies on the Prado.

i replaced the rear shocks today. and i thought my OME shocks were soft. sheesh.
i needed to change the OME shocks out because there were clearance issues to the chassis etc when cycling through the full travel range. The OME also have had there fair share of bruising and wheeling scars.

The new Procomp shocks are white with a rubber boot that is available in 15 different colours, but i went with the modest black coloured boot. the shocks now match the car colour.

they are also a tad longer, but still keep the coil captive to a point. i am able to turn the coil about 1/4 of a turn now, as before i couldn't with the OME's. They coils are still captive regardless of where the diff is in the travel range.

i didn't get any pics of them out of the box or next to the OME ones or any progress pics as i had dead phone batt.
i can take a pic of them in the morning, but it just looks like a white shock.

compression travel has not been affected with a quick measurement and a test drive after fitment. the slow speed valving seems the same as the OME's, but the high speed is a softer. when i used to put the boot in it, the front end would lift, but now doing the same thing, the front lifts and the back dips now. its definately getting closer to my marshmallow set up. soft, comfy, and flexxy. The PC shocl could be the softest non adjustable shocks available in that particular measurements.

The PC shocks are also cheap. definately cheaper than OME's, but they will not be for everyone. i have an extremely soft set up, and not everyone likes to drive my prado. Some people do get a slight boat sickness feeling.

also got some new replacement front upper control arm bushes. the UCA has bonded rubber bushes fitted originally, similar to the factory OE UCA bushes. i think with the soft front end and the amount of travel i have, its taking its toll on the bonded bushes. replacing them with a poly urethane type bush, there is zero binding or tearing of the bushes. this eliminates another point of restriction/bind in the front suspension.

i also got some new ball joints for the front UCA's too. just to be safe. hopefully i can get all the front end stuff in with the new coil and strut set up soon.
