new design upper ball joint boot should see the ball joint lasting more than a year.
if you would like to know why the ball joints were not lasting, let me know. bit slack in posting all the pics.

        • Very nice Steve. What was the go with the ball joints and only lasting a year?

How do you find the new rotors?

            • cheers mate.

rotors make a massive difference in braking now. especially when running a heavier than standard prado with larger tyres.
Good bite and positive feel all day long. Quicker dry up time after washing or creek crossings, no need to ride brakes now.

I still need to get the braided lines done, and brake fluid flush. then it will be even better again with pedal pressure and feel.

as for the ball joints wearing prematurely, it was the original rubber boot that was letting it down.
the boot was quite large in diameter. so with the epic front end droop i have, the arm was dropping so far it was crushing the rubber boot against the coil spring. you can see in the pic the black mark from when the boot would hit and crush. the constant contact split the boot, in turn letting in water and mud, thus wearing out the socket. if the yanks put a a zerk on, it would finish them off nice.

              • the pics show the old boot, and the new boot designs.

if you limit droop, or have standard droop, you shouldn't have any issues. i normally trial the extremes of things.

                • On the 120 I the front rotors warped so I changed them for slotted (and drilled) rotors and fitted Bendix pads. The improvement in braking performance was amazing. Thinking of doing the same again to the 150 even though there is nothing wrong with the brakes at this stage.

                        • after the IPF's got knocked off, i'm going to try out a set of these.

going for the 50w HID's as they use the Osram D1S globe which i think is superior compared to other HID set ups. I will be running both as a broad/wide beam. The claim is apparently 600 odd metres of distance but with the width of a wide/spread beam (about 20m either side of the car from 100m).

                          • I will also need to replace the smaller rectangular IPF's on my rack as well. They have served me well, and are a great light with the HID's.

I will be pushing to get 4 of the new LightForce 170 Venoms in the 50w HID's (also using Osram D1S globes) for trial on the rack. They are pretty awesome from what i have seen, and they now have LED 'daytime/visibility' light on the outer bezel. We'll see if lightforce come through for me.

i can't find any pics of it yet, but Simon (4wd tv) has already done a sneek peek on youtube (EDIT: Can't find the vid anymore). Due for release in April. Top secret squirrel stuff apparently.

sorted a pic, but might be in trouble for posting it. oh well.

unlucky, the bar mounting holes are too close by 30mm to get a third one in there... but!!! theres 25mm each side of the outside of lights to the bar uprights. might be some re-drilling of the mounting holes to get a third in there. besides, my bar is pretty much swiss cheese anyway. whats another two holes?
