  • My new baby

G'day guys. My 90 series is no more but has gone to a good home in Sydney. Found polar "Bear" in Darwin.
He's a 05 VX, V6 petrol and have spent a heap on him already. Originally bought him for $42 with 60k on the clock. Came with trailer brakes and dual batteries plus aftermarket JVC stereo.
    I've added: # 2" Ironman suspension lift
    # Lightforce spots
    # UHF
    # ARB Sahara bar with fogs
    # Safari snokel
    # Sheepskin front covers (airbag compatible)
And for the longer sojourns, iPod and Tom Tom, ARB fridge and rooftop tent.
Am waiting for the highway terrains to wear out before upgrading to all terrains.

        Excellent work Palko!

I see you have one of those Roo Shoos on the front - do they actually work?

I am a bit skeptical - kinda like what I think of the electronic rust protection systems. Theoretically they make sense, but I dunno.

          Re: My new baby

There'll be a barrage of pro's and cons from people but I've been in vehicles with shoo roo's and was amazed. On a trip from Melbourne to The Alice via The Hill I witnessed large flocks of birds veering away from the vehicle as we approached them. Their originally tragictory directly in our path. The same happened to me last month driving back to Alice up the Stuart Highway from Adelaide. I've seen cows and roo's stop and stare in our direction. Doesn't seem to scare them off, but does stop them as they wonder what the hell is coming their way. And - touch wood - (palko touches fake wood on VX's interior) I haven't hit a roo since having it. Pre shoo roo's - and especially driving at night around Central Australia - I've hit a few in my 43 years of living here.

I know a guy that cleaned up a big roo once, right were the sho roo was mounted, could have just been unlucky.

Hmmm..., you have got my interest now, looks like I will have to do some more research.

As far as I am aware it sends out an inaudible signal which disorientates them and deters them away from the car. From my understanding, like most things, it is preventative, not foolproof.

                    Re: My new baby

Alice is full of 4WDs and it has a sh.....d of of 120 Prado's so my main aim for a Sahara was to stand out from the pack. So common.... lol.
But I was concerned with the gap between bar and body. I found myself in the ARB capital, Melbourne and they checked it out in the workshop and said all was okay. Fair bit of movement, but liveable. I've yet to do a night drive with corrugations to see how the lightforce cope.

Sounds like you've got all the excuse you need to go on a trip.

Yeah, it gets the tourists chuckling. The great Aussie saying "yea nah". Personalised plates are cheap in the Territory. It's only a $120 one off payment. Every other man and his dog has one.

                              Sahara bar

Yeah, love it Toddy. A bit of movement on corrugations (normal) but all good. Won't save you from a roo or bull impact but looks the goods.
