  • Markus' slow buildup...

Well I've had the Prado for about a year now so I thought its time I did this...

    2003 v6 GXL
Rhino Sports bars (came with the car)
Bosch "Touring 165" spotties - both spread beams
Home made rear storage shelf / unit thingy
    Extra reverse light

Wish list: (don't hold your breath)
Suspension, Hella Predator HIDs, Rear Locker, winch, Maxtrax

Bought last year it originally looked like this:

Before the Prado I had this (which I really liked BTW):

Unfortunately this kept happening so I got the Prado to (hopefully) solve this problem:

First thing I did was fit some Bosch spotties which I salvaged off the Jeep:

That was about it for quite a while until over summer when we planned a bit of a trip. I thought I'd get some organisation happening
for the back and made up this relatively cheap shelf thingy for the back. It's held down by the cargo barrier bolts in the floor and I incorporated 5 tie down
    points for my stuff:

As the window tint on mine seems insanely dark at night, I added a 55w "reverse" light. I'll probably add a second one in the near future:

Switches for spotties and extra reverse light I mounted on this dash panel:

For communications I just use handheld Uniden UHFs. Maybe one day I'll get a proper built in unit.

Tomorrow its off to get some new boots so stay tuned...

Toyo Open Country AT: Went for the white letters as the wife wants it to look "tough". I'll put my review in the "tyres" section.

    Cheers.

Well for only having the Prado for about a year then I think you doing ok. Took me nearly two years before I even got it off road, let alone started upgrading.

What are the new boots you are getting? YOu have to post some pictures sometime tomorrow

G'day Schaffer. I got Toyo OPATs. Pics are in original post.

I'd done quite a bit of work to the Jeep to turn it into a capable little beast so I'm not too fazed by modifying. It's the finances that are holding me back.

        Cheers.

In the jeep with one child we filled it to the roof and the back seat, with the prado we have just been away for four days with our 4 week old, pram, porta cot etc. we still only filled the prado to just above the top of the seat and nothing on the back seat, gota love that that space. Interesting to see the photo of the jeep on the truck, as i had heaps of issues with mine but one thing it never did was let me down to the point it needed to be towed.
As for the prado, not one issue, love the yota reliability!!!!!

We don't have kids but when my wife and I would go camping, the back and back seat (of the jeep) would be filled up and the tent and chairs and stuff would be in the roof basket.
With the Prado I had to put the storage shelf thing in there just to organise it all because the space was so big. When I traded the Jeep I kept the roof basket but haven't even come close to needing it yet.

In all fairness Hutch, the Jeep only got towed once. All the other times I managed to limp down to the dealers and once they sent a guy out to me.

                Re: Markus' slow buildup...

Don't feel bad about the slow build up MKH. You're not the only one! 18 months since new and I've only added a pathetic list of stuff. I have Bilsteins and Ridepro's going in soon which will be the first significant change. I just had my 30,000km / 1.5yr service done and I only just ticked over 16,000k's. I really need to start doing better than that. I like your reversing light Idea and I might look into something similar because that's a beef of mine, not enough light to reverse by on a dark & stormy night. I'm looking into LED replacement bulbs for the reversing lights in the tail clusters but can only find them in the US so far. That's ok but you gotta pay for the shipping. I'll wait a bit and see if I can find someone in OZ who has them.

What's the main problems with the Jeep's? I have a good mate who has his eye's on one so I'm interested in these problems you guys have found with them.

                  Finally some more stuff.

Fitted Bilstein Struts and Shocks (finally some control on bumpy roads!) and an Ironman Awning. I'll get some pics up after this weekend where we're heading up to Mansfield.

                  Cheers.

                    Re: Markus' slow buildup...

Nothing wrong with a slow buildup! Gives you more time to think exactly what you want done!

Mine's taken 2 years and it's nowhere near how I want it (although I think I've nearly spent $10k on it :| ).

Look forward to seeing the pics of the lift and awning!
