    Re: Boofs Prado

Well I have been really slack with this and havent done anything yet ops: However we have decided to tackle the Cape this year so things are starting to happen. I finally pulled the bullbar out of the shed and took it to the sandblasters, will be picked up tomorrow and I will be painting it on the weekend weather permitting.

Fourbys will be fitting this for us along with upgrading the springs to the next rate as the soft wont handle the bar and struggle under the Lux also. I also now need to get my finger out and make some sliders up as I damaged the pathetic factory ones on the weekend much to the disgust of my wife ops:

Will be getting the lockers fitted also along with some new DVD headrests I have getting recovered in the factory material at present. So by the time June rolls around we should be ready to head north. I then need to concentrate on finishing the Lux before I do any more mods to this, and I also purchased a 40 series last year also, so at some point when I decided what direction to take I need to get that done as well. Sooner I get the wife a new daily the sooner I get the Prado.

I will be spending more time on this forum again as I have been slack lately, in the absense of any decent pics of the Prado here is a pic of the Lux and why I have been so busy

      Looking good Boof,

What happened to the Green Machine - Did you flick the old LUX?
Oh well, a newer MY05 Hilux should be awesome when you are finished with it.
You'll need to post some new pics of the 120, can't wait to see the sliders.
If you're gonna make a pair, then maybe I could put an order in aswell.
Mine won't take another hit after my last day out at Ripley.

      cheers

Cheers mate, I stripped the old Lux kept some the engine, seats etc and sold the rest off, got the front bar back from the sand blasters yesterday so hoping to get that painted or at least undercoated this weekend. Once thats complete and installed I will be starting on the sliders, still deciding if to do a similiar style to my old Lux ones or make a steel base and cut the top off the originals to fit to it. This way I end up with a steel step that still looks original but can take a decent hit.

            Re: Boofs Prado

I will be speaking with Ryano this week as I think I need some new wheels with more offset, I have decided against going to 33s I just dont see the need with what its used for. Also its not worth the aggravation it may cause with the cops so for now the tyre size will stay the same. I did some measuring today and I reckon with a 2" body lift I could fit 35s, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Had a good look at the bar fitting this morning and said what the hell, will wire the lights up this arve when it cools down a bit and pick up a set of LF170s off Ryano for it tomorrow.

              Re: Boofs Prado

While catching up with Twisty at Fourbys we also trial fitted one of his wheels to the Prado. I will probably go the same offset with a slightly narrower tyre and rim to alleviate some scrubbing. Will probably look to doing it after the Cape trip and do the lockers and regear before the trip.

can i ask the specs on the wheels and tyres?

                what size wheel is that?

                17x8?
                17x9?
                what off set are they?
                B/S?

and also how much clearance to the brake caliper. all the wheels i've tried int he 17" dept have on 2-3mm clearance to the caliper unless i go 18"s.

what size tyres are on those rims? and what size tyre you going for ?

                i'm thinking about a 17x8 with 0 offset and a 285 tyre.

Those were a 17x9 with I believe a -12 offset, the tyres are 33x12.5/17s they stuck a good inch or more past the flares. On full lock they hit the inner plastic of the guard but nothing I couldnt fix with a grinder and a hammer.

There was plenty of room for the calipers from what I saw, ideally I will go a 17x8 or 17x8.5 with the -12 offset, but to alleviate some of the scrubbing and the amount of tyre past the flare probably go a 285 instead of the true 12.5 wide tyre Twisty has on his. If it wasnt the wifes daily driver I would run the exact same combo without issue. But it would take some work to get it right and by the time I did she would be tired of yelling at me about the scrubbing   ops:

Definately will be regearing and running 33s though.

                    Re: Boofs Prado

Ordered a new set of rims yesterday should be getting fitted Saturday hopefully, I will just keep running the STTs for the moment and see how the scrubbing goes so I can get it ready for the 33s before I head to the Cape.

Ended up going a 17x9 -12 offset Mickey Thompson Classic II, I went with the polished alloy over chrome because even though its a pita to clean, its more durable offroad. I have had these before and they were a great rim, also the price was right so I went this way. 8)

                      Re: Boofs Prado

Well the new rims are on at this stage still running the old 265/70/17 STTs, might not end up going to a 285 at all yet.

Definately improves the stance and ride and once again the guys at Fourbys did an awesome job. The rim for the spare hasnt come in yet but should go on next week.

They sit just outside the top of the flare by around 5mm or so. Will get some pics tomorrow for you as its pouring rain here at present.

Thanks mate, no scrubbing as yet, I still need to replace the coils with the next rate up after fitting the front bar. The STTs are on there last legs so I am trying to decide if the new MTZs I fit will be 265s or 285s. Head says stick with 265s, but the rest of me says stuff it fit the 285s
