Hi,
I thought it was time that i contribute to a great forum that has helped me with lots of Prado projects.
This is my Rig Build up.
This was my toy brand new.....well 9000k brand new and a lot cheaper!
It is a 2006 Grande with Rear sensors, Reversing Camera, Towbar, Matts and front light and bonnet protectors.
It was fitted with the standard sports cross bars. Good for a surfboard but useless for any camping.
The first item of purchase was a sovereign alloy bar. I picked this up from ebay for $800 in great condition (still Shiny!!)
I then proceeded to spend the savings on a pair of IPF spotties and an aerial for my Handheld UHF radio.
We then purchased a Coupltech rust protector. I don't know if it works....you will have to ask me in 10 years or so.
Then on went an ARB rack. It took a while for us to decide what rack to go with. In the end i could not be happier. It half covers the sunroof but i am not too concerned by this.
I purchased a Black widow Awning. It has teh best canvas out there and i got a great deal at the Caravan and camping show.
Unfortunately the mounting brackets i purchased from ARB doen't fit the new racks with full length support brackets.
I hate drilling holes in new parts. So i designed my own brackets. They are laser cut from 2mm mild steel, Folded and Powdercoated to suit the rack.
I installed a second battery for the fridge and assorted items. The gel battery now resides in there as teh AGM died on me. I also installed the ARB compressor beneath the bonnet. There is a light switch with a permanent fitting mounted behind teh grill so that i have light when using the compressor at night.
I decided to manufacture my own drawers along with a colleage from work. There are a lot of options out there but nothing that i considered perfect to my wants. These drawers have powdercoated fronts to match the other ARB items. They have real marine carpet (not felt) and an auto lock for holding the drawers open. They are custom built to ensure maximum drawer size is achieved in the space available. I love them. My wife has one for all teh food and i keep the other for items such as recovery gear tools etc.
We then decided to move back to WA. The trip would take us through the high country and beyond. Therefore on went new tyres (BFG All terrains), A steel bullbar (I was sick of polishing teh toyota one!!!), A winch.....and a snorkel (last car drowned so i was not risking anything this time).
END RESULT
A few Miscellaneous items included - remote mic UHF radio, Reversing senor override button, Reversing camera override button, inverter beneath passenger seat, Fridge slide (built and powdercoated to match the drawers)
Now we are in Perth. Lots of scratches, dents and a bent step later. However, This is why i bought the car and we love it more each time we go on a trip.
All i need now is a lift kit and some rock sliders.
